Thorim 10 - Hard mode

Hey guys new here. We just stepped foot into Ulduar10 hards this week. XT was a no brainer, Hodir was a few wipes but got him with 12 seconds left on timer, but then we got to Thorim. We had some issues later in the fight regarding unbalancing strike. We used 3 healers, but it seemed like once the attack got up to 7 or more it became unmanageable with the other abilities factored in. Maybe we're just new to it and need to refocus on what we're doing. I, myself, am popping divine protection before unbalancing at around 9 stacks. Any advice would be great.

Unbalancing Strike: Inflicts 200% weapon damage and leaves the target unbalanced, reducing their defense skill by 200 for 15 sec. Tanks need to taunt off of each other to counter this.

ummm... thats the note for Unbalancing strike... we did him last week with out even thinking or noticing it.... so i dont know what u are doing wrong.. Thorium is way to easy on hardmode for 10 man

Well thanks for reminding me how easy he is in 10. But that's beside the point. Should we be using 3 healers, or should a healer go dps and burn the boss quicker? When should we use bloodlust? Just seemed like we consistently got the boss to 20% and then everything stopped.

I would recommend going to two healers. It is more about kill him before he kills you / stacks get too high. Raid dmg should be mitigated by appropriate positioning and avoiding blizzards etc.

Bloodlust should be timed appropriately to maximize execute range players. But waiting too long is a bad idea too. Judge your raid dps and his health - how long did it take you to get him to 60% ? That should be your slowest % as debuffs are being aplied.

We do most hard modes with 2 healers, but for this we use 3. Ideally I'd prefer 2, but it de-risks it a lot by having 3 spread out.

When I did it for the first time on my druid we had 3 healers (me being one.) We did have one tank die due to the other tank not taunting quick enough. I would definitely use 3 healers because the hard part about this fight is how healing intensive it is, and you can't afford having anyone die. If all of your dps are 4k+ in a 10man you should have no problem burning him quick enough. You should use bloodlust after the first blizzard happens so all dps can use it to the fullest extent.

Also, what do you mean by "at 20% everything stopped" ?

Well the frost nova always hits people and that cannot be avoided. Also, the blizzard tends to spawn on top of someone so at least 1 person will be caught in it. As well a consistent chain lightning will damage the raid, and the tanks are taking much more damage because Thorim has his damage buff enabled.

Raid positioning makes all the difference on this fight. The blizzard actually goes around the room on the outside wall, and there is 2 safe zones in the room from charges. We put the tank in the safe zone in front of the *stage* (where thorim is when you start fight). He holds Thorim just off the mid circle. Melee spread out into 2 groups-one on each side of the middle circle to lessen lightning damage. Healers stand in the second safe zone in front of the gate(entrance to the gauntlet). Be careful on this one to find the exact spot because depending how far out of the middle Thorim is the charge going to the @10oclock position can clip the front of this safe zone. Ranged should be about 10 yards behind melee spread out, just never near the wall. Once we went to this setup I dont think anyone has ever been hit by blizzard and chain lightning damage is minimal. When ranged or melee get a charge going by them they should already have a spot to run to that is not on top of others.

*edit-One piece of frost resist can help in this fight also, we each use a ring if the damage is giving healers problems.

When I say everything stopped I mean that a tank dropped and it was pretty much over. We tried to keep spam healing one tank, but that really didn't work. Our first attempt we used two healers to judge how fast we could make it through the tunnel. I dunno we two heal general, hodir and xt hard.. so I guess we could try a disc priest/resto druid for this. Gonna head in there tonight.

Last night the MT & I both ate lightning charges. I am 99.999% sure we were standing in the usual spot. The edge of the inner ring on the tunnel door side. That cone area, I am just curious if any one else can confirm either way if this was fixed?

If you have a Druid tank, Warrior, or Warlock make sure they keep up Demo Roar/Shout or Curse of Weakness. It greatly reduces the damage done by Unbalancing Strike.

My group was having issues with this for a few weeks. Here is what we did. First we made a healer switch to dps in the arena. We normally go with a holy paly in the hallway and a holy priest/shammy in the arena. We had the shammy respecc to enhance. I found as a prot war, a few talented skills helped a LOT. One was imp Demo shout, and the other was Safeguard. Burning shieldblock just as he is about to unbalance strike worked great with imp demo shout. I would then backup a bit and be ready to intervene just before boss used unbalancing strike on the other tank. Worked amazingly well. Boss died fast and no deaths. We were all amazed in vent how simple the fight has actually become now. Hope this helps!
