| | | Stormcaller Brundir Interrupts
My guild and I were making some progress through Ulduar last night (We're still quite new to it), and, after downing Kologarn we moved on to the Iron Council. Following the advice of the guide, we had one person tanking the Runemaster and the Stormcaller. One of the reasons I was put on that duty was to interrupt his chain lightning spell. However, whenever I tried to mind freeze him, I found that it didn't work.
What interupts are working for you guys? Should Mind Freeze work? And between a Paladin and a DK, who would you rather have the Paladin on the other two or the DK??

He is stunnable, thus a prot warrior can concussion blow, shield bash, revenge, shockwave, or heroic throw him.
I'm a prot warrior and when I tank him I manage his interrupts solo. Also, get a curse of tongues on him to make it easier.

Also Charge. A single Protection Warrior can tank him easily, removing a significant amount of damage from the raid.

We are still working on IC as well. I do know that silences work on him and Mind Freeze, but the cast is very fast and can easily be missed if your GCD is running from something else. He is not very fun to to tank as a DK.

During phase 1 and 2 you only have to keep aggro off the healer so you don't really need to be generating that much threat. That means you can spend most of the time melee swinging and your GCD's clear for that important interrupt. After a successful interrupt hit him with 1 or 2 high threat attacks and then back off and keep your GCD clear for another stun/silence whatever.
Obviously when Steelbreaker and Runemaster are both down and the raid swaps DPS to Stormcaller you're going to need to be pumping threat, at which point your DPS can help you with interrupts as stuns don't work. Have them handle chain lightening while you focus on interrupting the really deadly whirlwind.

Currently, we have yet to kill IC. It's mostly losing people to runes of death (we often have a ton of melee) and the pally tank to fusion punches. As for me, I routinely handle Rune/Stormcaller without much problems, and sometimes in awe to the other players and I dance about only letting approximately one chain lightning through every 20-30 seconds depending.
Other tank classes are a bit more 'stuck' when it comes to tanking brundir, in fact - I'd throw out an alternate strategy of an earthshock shammy kiting him using the back of the room in that case (which don't get me wrong would be a royal pain, but all things considered...)
I'm hazarding a guess that runecaller was probably a bone thrown to warrior tanks for the outcry about being closed off the MT role in Sarth3D. (speculative)
Not only is this a good encounter for a warrior tank, and to showcase the array of stuns, it is also a time for them to really show off their skills and even showboat a little by creative uses of charge and intervene to keep runecaller effectively 'kited' for some of the fight.

Thanks for the replies.
Unfortunately I'm getting only one affirmative that mind freeze works. I'm well aware that interrupts in general work (i.e. stuns) but I don't have any, the only ones I have are casting interrupts, Mind Freeze and Strangulate. Luckily, Mind Freeze isn't on the GCD, so it's not a matter of not having it up, it's simply a matter of it either not stopping the attack or perhaps the attack is too quick for me to catch. Either way I'd feel better on the main target anyways, as opposed to the other two bosses.

I tank them with my DK (10 man), and mind freeze does work for the chain lightning and the whirlwind. My warlock is cool, so he helps me out with curse of tongues.

Asking classes with ranged interrupts to use a /focus macro to interrupt him can help as well, if you're struggling.

Our 10 man team had a couple of attempts at this fight on our last raid night. I am a prot warrior and I agree that this boss would be relatively simple to keep interrupts up on etc. however, I really struggled to get him into position initially. Our raid separated the two gps either side of the room. Steelbreaker on one side and I had the other 2 mobs with me. My problem was the initial positioning of Brundir. I would interupt or silence and back up to reposition him and he would simply stay put and then start casting as soon as the silence/interupt was finished. I would then run back in and interupt CL again and the same would happen. Any advice on how to move this SOB?

I haven't had any problems moving him as long as he's silenced, not stunned. That means shield bash/heroic throw only if you need to have him move around.

We don't have a warrior tank and don't interrupt chain lightning at all. We just interrupt lightning whirl with mages. All the tank classes can do all the fights in ulduar. Though admitted, druids and dks are still easier to work with.

When he starts casting use heroic throw and he should come to you. Also after a shield-bash he should be movable.

It helps if the warrior tanking brundir/runecaster calls the pull and times it when the midget has run to whatever the closest position is to where you want him to be.
In my case, I Bloodrage, heroic throw Brundir when he's near runecaller (I work on the left side) while first shield slam goes to runecaller. Steelbreaker is taunted/MD-pulled in synch with my pull so I'm not holding all 3.
If brundir isn't where I want him by the time throw's silence is up, I'll Shield Bash to finalize his position, or move him if he gets first rune. Then it's a matter of SB to move him as needed while Heroic throw is off cooldown to be used as a whirl emergency button by phase 2.

As a DK tank, I usually sit on Brundir in 25 mans and interrupt. I think it's pretty simple - usually a druid or priest is healing me back there, and with scent of blood, I always have enough RP left if I'm just hitting him with RS and RP dumps - more than enough to keep threat off the healer.
In addition, keep in mind that death gripping is completely viable for interrupting his casting, including lightning whirl.

My guild downed IC 10 man last week and i have a bit of extra info in relation to interuppting Brundir once the other 2 council members are downed. Once he is on his own he becomes immune to stuns but is still interuptable.
As a prot warrior i find brundir a great deal of fun to tank as before the other 2 are down you can interrupt with shockwave, conc blow, shield bash and heroic throw. Really get to use your abilities to the max on this boss. Another good point to remember is to try to save heroics throws for the times when you need to move brundir and a rune has been place underneath him. On our successful attempt about 75% of the runes were cast underneath me , so i had to move brundir out on several occasions, and heroic throw is very useful to make sure he gets silenced and moved out successfully.
Once the other 2 council members go down we had a mage interrupt lightning whirl and i rotated interrupts with a dk dps on chain lightning. Helped to reduce raid damage significantly.
Fight is a great deal of fun, and i look forward to trying IC in 25 man this week.
For dk's both mind freeze and strangulate will work to interrupt him.

Mind Freeze works, but I find I have to get it in right at the start of his cast. I just assumed it was some slight lag making it miss in the last part of the cast bar.
DeathGrip does work on the regular cast, but sometimes he does resist it. I don't think Ive ever tried it on the whirls because MindFreeze always seems to work fine on those. At that point our melee dps in interrupting the chain lightning cast and I do the whirls. I also use DG to also yank him out of the runes when they land under him.
