| | | TankSpot's Project Marmot & YouTube Channel
You've no doubt seen the beginnings of an extensive movie collection arriving on TankSpot over the last two days. This is an ongoing process that, in the immediate future, will cover the entirety of 10-man content and several Heroic 5-mans. In the more distant future, it will include user-submitted guild videos and guides of all of these encounters, as well as 25-man versions of the same.
In the tradition of the TankSpot Marmot, we've decided to name this Project Marmot (I even have projectmarmot.com reserved!). The unique name is primarily meant to grab attention and make an easy indicator for non-tanks who are looking for our raid guides on the site.
For the first time, I have made the decision to focus on YouTube movies almost exclusively. Almost none of these guides are designed for full-resolution downloads, but instead are designed to reach the maximum resolution YouTube is capable of. Why YouTube? It reaches the highest number of people with the fewest international restrictions. Coincidentally -- and quite appreciated -- YouTube has just opened up much higher resolution videos, and has automatically converted our first batch of movies into this format.

How much work would it be to also post the videos on filefront? YouTube and my office internet don't get along very well.

For what it's worth - we called it Project Marmot because Project Lore was already taken and "Lore Lore" sounds weird.

Tankspot Marmot needs to level his fanny up and get some WoTLK gear. Shouldn't be sporting that out dated shiznit.

Dear TankSpot administrators - especially you, Ciderhelm.
One of my strongest principles in life, is to tell someone, when they have done a good job.
And this Project Marmot, is nothing but fantastic - especially the videos has a quality to them, that is unlike any of the "how-to-down-the-boss"-videos that existed before.
I would like, on behalf of my whole guild (Phoenix Legends, Dragonmaw) to thank you for the immense help you have provided, to get our raiding up and running, and providing good quality videos for us to use.
Thank you
I will pop my head by these forums, from time to time in the future, and leave a post here and there.
All the best regards
Tavia @ Dragonmaw

| | | Hey Ciderhelm!
Great project! I really love you video guides, mostly in part I don't have to make them (I just point them to your videos for my guildies) and second, it's better than the stuff you see on YouTube.com on the How To videos.
I used to do them for BC and used the full length fights with narrations in it so my guildies get the most out of seeing how the fight works before going in.
I do Mod review videos. I don't know if you can use them for this project but if you do let me know. It's over on my youtube account YouTube - cychow's Channel.
Thanks for the work again on your videos. Great help to my guild.

In some areas of the country, the most common version of the marmot (marmota monax), is referred to as a "Whistlepig", or the more familiar "Woodchuck."
Which, in ancient lore, gave rise to the famous rhetorical question "How much deeps could a woodchuck deeps if a woodchuck could deeps wood?"

I have to say that these video's are brilliant Ciderhelm. I watched aload of them before going to Naxx10 to tank.. and we killed 7 bosses without a wipe.
So thanks alot for doing these video's they are a massive help.

I play a restoration shaman and lead raids for a fairly casual raid group. Because of this, I often try to find a good description of a fight from the tank's perspective simply so that I can help smooth any issues that can arise from improper tanking strategy. I have to say, the videos I've found here have been some of the best, most helpful videos I've ever watched on raid strategies. Even just the quality of the video itself and the calm, simple descriptions you give about the encounters adds to the understanding drawn from them.
These videos have been so good, that I'm seriously considering starting up a series of raid videos from a healer's perspective. To this end, I was wondering if you could tell me what video capture program you use (I've used Game Cam in the past, but I'm not sure if I want to continue using it) as well as what program you use for editing the video at the end. And finally, if I ever do start to make my own instructional videos, would I be able to add my videos to your collection?

Hi. I love your videos. I love the explanations along with the clear clean video. I am wondering if you can ever post your secrets on making these videos. I am curious about what is the file size/resolution before uploading to youtube? Do you use Vegas/Vista Movie Maker/? to make these? I have some that are getting close to yours but for some reason more of my right and left are cut off than yours. All of your videos are well done, and I understand if you feel that this is something you want to hold on to.
Here is an example of what I am talking about, Here is mine:
