Hi Cider, my guild is currently looking at changing out loot system. We are currently using a tiered rolling system. It has worked for us all the way up to BT, but only so so. Basically the major fault is that to earn a right to roll on an item you have to have over 50% attendance over the last two weeks. This is great until people stop being motivated to raid once they hit their 50% mark, and yet still get equal chance at loot.

As you can see there are inherent flaws with our current system. We recognize that and are addressing it so that come WoTLK we will be in good shape to really dig into progression content.

Basically we want a loot system that motivates people to raid. I have read most of the loot system thread and have listened to your podcast in regards to this topic.

We are definitely leaning towards some form of DKP. I was wondering however if you were familiar with EPGP. It is an offshoot of zero-sum DKP. In some ways it seems too good to be true. If you aren't familiar with this system, more information can be found here:
WhatIsEPGP_v2 - epgp - Google Code - EPGP: Effort Points, Gear Points

I would love to hear your thoughts on it. Thanks!

Loot distribution and dual specs.

In the past we used to swap people based on what the encounter needed or people respecced.

With the upcoming dualspec in WotLK my guess is, that this isn't needed anymore.

I don't know about the encounters yet but if it is anything in between 2-4 tanks and 6-9 healers like in in BC you can either have some people with dualspec or have replacements.

How is a good way to handle loot. Have everyone have a go at dualspeccing or appoint some people in a "duallspec" role where they are allowed to gear up for both dps and tanking/healing spec?

Ciderhelm, i been playing loads and loads of online games but i never understood why raiders in world of warcraft are so good at crying when it comes to loot when killing a boss or even a random object.

To understand my backround more; from a sertain game , when you died there 2-3 items were being dropped from your character, things could break when enchanted and the items that drop litteraly landed on the floor (so anyone could pick it up). You could be scammed in that game , the devs called it : working as intended type and it was the community that had to step in and working as Middlemen in deals between two unknown players.

So Question was:
Why are players in world of warcraft crying over items that can be and will be dropped again , that cant be destroyed by other force than selling or dissenchanting. And crying so much that they need a set rulesystem with dkp this and dkp that. And not just be cool with it and give it (the item) to the fellow gamer next to you who also was in that fight and did his or her best to down the boss or whatever?

Cider, a few of my friends and I recently started a raiding guild about a month or so ago and currently have about 11 raider thats are there for raids regularly (one tank that rotates with the off-tank). 7 out of 10 of them are in naxx25 gear from the previous guild and the other 3 are in naxx 10 gear. Currently we can barely make it through Naxx10 and Ulduar is just feeling farther and farther from reality. It seems like i'm the only one that understands why we are literally going backwards in progression instead of moving toward end-game content.

The problem that i'm seeing in our raids is that we only have one person that's actually above 3k dps and its only during a stationary boss like patchwerk. The other 5 dps typically will be around 1.8k-2.4k dps in a stationary fight. I understand that gear does not make the player, skill makes the player, but it seems to me that having gear at that level you should at least be around 3k minimum. I have tried to talk to individual players about trying to respec or try a new rotation just to get a "you don't play my class so you don't know what your talking about" type of response. They're nice people to be around and I love to play with them, but I just don't know how to tell them that in order to progress as a raiding guild doing 2.3k on average just won't cut it and they need to step it up in order to actually make it to ulduar before the next expansion.

Question:
How can I tell my guild that their dps needs to be improved in order to start progression without sounding like an eliteist jerk and sound like I just want to tell them how to play?

P.S. Your R.L. name reminds me of Patches o'Houlihan from Dodgeball the movie who is just awesome

Raider A have 100% performance. Raider B have 65% performance.
Raider B is on time for raid and being picked. Raider A comes late due RL duties with like being 1h late. As raid leader - what to do? (if it's farm night it's np - you just farm it, but for progress you need your best people) And how to not feel bad if you invite other raider, how to tell that to first one. I really feel bad whenever I need to replace someone - not because they did something wrong (that's easy) but when i need better raid/class setup.

Dear Cider,

How do you deal with raiders who are constantly lacklustre in raid situations? They're not terrible, but they are also not exceptional either.

I think being upfront and honest will probably work best. Also, do it privately. I whispered a hella-geared warlock last night in 25 ToC, that he needs to pick up his DPS b/c I (the tank) out DPSed him.
