| | | Windows 7: A treat so far!
Just a note to the community, the retail release of Windows 7 has been very solid. If you're interested in upgrading or buying a new computer, this is a good time to do so.
I was originally nervous since Adobe has notoriously had poor support for new operating systems, and I need to use the CS4 collection for my day-to-day work. I did a test install yesterday on my gaming computer and CS4 seemed to work smoothly. After a bit of research to reassure me and after seeing the results, I went ahead with an install on the production computer.
The OS is very fast, very clean, and has some very intuitive features. The window management is smoother still than it was in Vista.

Only on the release candidate so far, waiting for my free student edition to come, I can't say I notice anything running any better(more fps, faster loading, etc) but at least it looks pretty, and has a much nicer task bar.

I have my upgrade coming in the mail within the next couple of days. I am very excited which is most definitely a first for me when talking about operating systems.

Bought the upgrade, planning to apply it tomorrow. Have not been impressed with Vista, hoping this lives up to the generally positive reviews I've seen all round.

I'm looking at this but the price tag right now is a bit absurd for me. If I want to get the Ultimate from newegg it's like 319.99. Sorry but I'd rather put a down payment on a ring for the woman instead!
Make that 219.99 on the official windows7 website. I might swing that in a few weeks.

I've not seen any vast improvements in W7 compared to Vista, I've never had problems with Vista unlike most people who QQ about it all the time. To me I would still run XP or Linux over it, as I hate the superbar, makes having more then one program like firefox open at once hard, I liked the plain simple bar from XP and Vista.

I also like my vista64. But hey, I like new and shiny as much as the next consumer!

runs 149 atm, but I preordered so it was only 130ish. Newegg.com - Microsoft Windows 7 Professional 64-bit 1-Pack for System Builders - Operating Systems
note: if you have a student email address, I hear you can get a copy for about $30... Sadly, after 10 years of college/grad school, I don't have a single active edu acct anymore.
and I am currently running xp home 32bit, and I'm tired of the limited ram, which is the main reason for upgrading.

after taking a nap, my PC was in sleep mode, Windows 7 had a much longer wake up time then XP and Vista, and by longer not instant like XP or Vista.

It's been the little features that I'm enjoying. I'd agree with people who said Vista 64 was a good OS in it's own right, and that there's not a huge difference between them. Windows 7 is superior, though, and fun.

<3 7.
I've had 7 since it was released in the Beta and haven't looked back since. Solid upgrade with a ton of neat lil features and gadgets. A great upgrade.

I too am using Vista64. Not one bit of trouble from that one.
Vista was plagued by a couple of things:
-Microsoft let everybody put a ready for vista badge on the last turkey in the shop
-It took ages for drivers to resurface
-People weren't used to the UAC(which I think is brilliant)
I can't see how Windows7 is going to do anything for me. I need an OS to run stuff which Vista does.
And I find the marketing hype quite a bit dubious, to tell you the truth.
Looks a little bought and paid for to me.

Have a brand new high-end gaming computer that I put Win7 Ultimate 64bit into and I like it. Only problem is that need to run WoW in Compability mode to not get it to freeze up randomly.
