Maybe, but Im not gonna mess around with different drivers and try and try. It works now with compability mode and as tank I need a stable setup I can rely on. Not gonna freeze up on Yogg+0 at 4% due to some experementing.

Is there a way to upgrade from a previous w7 to a new w7? The RC installer was giving me hell so I used a "not quite legal" version to install instead, and had it for a few months: Would rather avoid having to reset up, if that makes sense(Though I do so love the way my current version is put together).

I'm having issues installing Microsoft Office. I have 64 bit Ultimate w7. I've LOVED it so far.
First I tried to download it from an old cd I had laying around of '03, and I kept getting errors (it was an illegal copy, and I was just using the run instead of setup), so I decided to go buy '07. I tried to download the trial first to get me by (money is tight right now) and it kept getting to about 40% roughly (there is no percentage wihle downloading, just the bar) and it wouldn't get past that. Finally, I got a copy of Enterprise edition from school (has pretty much everything on it) and it's probably 95% through the install and it won't move at all.
I had '07 enterprise on the machine before I had w7 (I did a complete revamp install instead of keeping my old files), and it worked perfectly fine.

I have Office 2007 home & student edition running flawlessly on W7 Ultimate x64.
No problems at all. Perhaps you've got bad media.

I love the convenience of the so called "super bar" it functions well and is very clean. I love the live previews of windows (ie alt tabbed from WoW browsing the web and keep the mouse to watch for ready checks hehe) and I like the grouping even better than the vista style of window grouping. The small things make it great for me in addition to it being smooth. People always claimed vista was much slower in gaming than XP but I really see no reason to stay with it any longer. I love my 7 64 Ultimate and will probably be staying for some time.

got to annoyed with the superbar so back to Vista 64bit. | If that was your main reason for moving back to Vista, then you should re-think many of the other changes that came with Win7. WDS is much more responsive in Win7, and Aero has had many significant improvements (snap features for one).
Why not just set the taskbar buttons to "Never Combine" and then use either desktop icons or pin programs to the start menu?

Ordered my copy of W7 home premium when newegg had the $39.99 special.
Finally got around to installing it, and I must say I am more than happy with the outcome.
Went from XP pro 32bit to W7 64bit and haven't had a single issue once.
All my older software works great, no compatibility mode needed.
WOW runs fantastic, and I'd honestly swear I'm getting better frames and overall performance from it.
Pinning items to your taskbar is genius and very sleek. And I'm loving the aero features (including the preview panel when you hover over active icons in your taskbar)
It really didn't take long to adjust to the style and layout of items, control panel options, etc.
and still more for me to explore, I'm loving it.
even if I had to pay the full upgrade or even retail price now, knowing and experiencing it as I have, I'd definitely recommend it

one of my guildies is running Windows 7 and is reporting that WOW randomly locks up, causing his whole system to lock up. I realize that there are lots of variables in play, so it may not affect my decision to upgrade from XP to Windows 7, but is anyone else experiencing lockups with WOW and windows 7?

Absolutely no issues with gaming from Windows 7 that did not exist with x64 vista that I was running before. By that I am referring to some games like Call of Duty WaW that HATES alt-tabbing and will almost always lock up during online play when you alt tab. So far I have experienced nothing that can be attributed to the OS. I would suspect he has something that isn't playing quite right from the install in his WoW folder.

I installed Win7 Home Premium 64-bit upgrade, two days ago, and had no issues, other than having to uninstall my anti-virus (which was about to be discontinued, anyway), microsoft intellimouse/keyboard drivers, and ITunes. Immediately after installation, I found that Microsoft now has it's own anti-virus program, for free download (Microsoft Security Essentials--works with XP, Vista, or WIN7). And, ITunes had its new version for Win7, which downloaded, and installed, no problems. I think the main thing with ITunes was that I needed to "un-authorize" my Ipod account, so that ITunes would recognize my computer, in order to "authorize" it again. The mouse drivers were old ones that I don't need anymore, anyway.
WoW works just like with Vista64, for me, so far, although I haven't played but a couple of hours in the last two days. No lockups, or d/c's...
I did notice last night that I was having trouble with my Outfitter add-on...it kept wanting to leave me with my Lance equipped, which made for fun, while doing my Chillmaw daily!...However, I attribute that to a bug in the addon, not my OS. I expect tonight I will see if there's an update, or if the problem has somehow been corrected otherwise. It is day after maintenance, after all...

This is my only gripe; although the fix described a few comments down did SEEM to help me out. Ventrilo Lagging Audio Issues - Windows 7 Forums |

got to annoyed with the superbar so back to Vista 64bit. | It should be noted you can change your bar to vista/xp style easily.
Best OS from Microsoft so far!

Don't think that is the case anymore. With vista microsoft did a lot of core improvements that increased its performance (then they made the OS itself a giant resource hog and generally annoying). These improvements is in w7 but the os itself is much better to.

I read an article on whether XP was still fastest, Windows 7 And XP Were roughly the same, although surprisingly Vista beat them both in some tests, such as "Cinebench R10"

in spite of the W7 hype... isn't XP still superior, concening performance? | To clarify on the why, so that people are more educated on the subject: Windows7 has two key performance advantages over XP.
First off is the improved prefetching abilities that were first implemented in Vista, and then refined in Win7. This prefetching uses idle resources to load commonly used programs and libraries into memory, so that they are ready to use when you call upon a program. Before people complain about Win7 "hogging their RAM", the memory is controlled very intelligently by the memory mangement system, and clearing any prefetched RAM in order to make room for something that hasn't been prefetched is a very quick process.
Secondly, Win7 was designed with multithreading and 64-bit in mind. Even if you leave the multithreading optimizations out of the picture, the fact that we're (finally) starting to move towards a 64-bit environment brings its own benefits - most of which come down to hardware improvements.

has anyone had issues with WoW addons and windows 7? My co worker just bought an alienware equipped with windows 7 and a lot of his addons aren't working. He's tried all of the "move folders" and other non-reinstall tricks listed on the wow forums and he's kind of stuck.
