| | | What Mouse to buy?!
So my Logitech MX500 has finally died and I need a new mouse. I prefer wireless and I don't care about adjustable DPI.
I REALLY like the design of the Razer Mamba. Fits my hand well, has the buttons I want in the locations I want; but the price is atrocious.
I've been a logitech fan for years, I've purchased a ton of their products over the years and have always been happy. I really dislike the new revolution / G9 design, even if I can appreciate the functionality; it just doesn't fit my hand well. The G7 would be perfect for me, but it is short a button on the left side (NEED MY CLEAVE BIND DAMN YOU!)
I hate Microsoft, but I have to admit the new Sidewinder x8 looks pretty sweet. It also looks "tall". Looks like three thumb buttons... hmmm.
Has anyone had good or bad experiences with the above? I've heard horror stories about razer products, and could tell a few of my own about microsoft wireless products. Does anyone know where I can get a mouse similar to the G7 with 2 thumb buttons? Is the Mamba worth it's price?

I have the g5, (new version with the 2 thumb buttons) and I adore it, I'm not a big fan of the cord as I can see myself fixing it in the future as It gets squished alot when I move my laptop around.
I would suggest the g7, and perhaps use the software to bind the scroll wheel's sideways buttons to key stroke's and set your cleave to one of them :P

I use the g-5 as well. Its been a great mouse and with the heaviest weights it comes with in it, its just the right heaviness. Plus the thumb buttons and the tilting scroll wheel offer a large customization in easy to use places. Get the blue one with the black spots! And make sure you turn it so that the software controls mouse sensitivity, not the OS.. otherwise you'll have issues with it constantly resetting.

I use one of those wireless mouses that sells for about 15.00. They work really well and manage to keep on working after they've been thrown against the wall.

| | Logitech MX-518 - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia I love this mouse and will continue to buy it until they don't make it anymore. But I also play alot of FPS games so its more suited to my uses. I like wired mice better because I don't have to worry about the batteries dieing in the middle of a Match or raid.

I love the MX518! Just want a wireless! If there was a cross between the mx518 and the g7 I would be in heaven.
I'm leaning more and more to the mamba, not because its the most expensive, or the most "designer" but simply because it's a simple shape and form with buttons in the right places, the damn logitechs I want are either corded or are missing buttons I like, or have stupid shapes that don't fit my massive hands.
I really want to buy a Logitech, I've heard some horror stories about Razer products.

Buy the one you are most comfortable with. Honestly I would try a few and see what your hand is most comfortable with. You can always take'm back, I've taken back plenty because you actually have to use it vs. just play with it at the store before you can assess if it'll work or not. I've used and liked the G5 and steelgate wow mousse. Good luck with the search.

I personally use a Razer Diamondback 3G and love it. But I am definitively an ambidextrous-mouse type of person. I HATE with a fiery passion of my deep inner soul any mouse that tries to form to your hand to be more "comfortable."
My roommate, on the other hand, uses a Razer DeathAdder and loves it.
The Mamba is definitively a nice mouse, but in my opinion not worth the price. But then again I rather buy a wired mouse that is just as good, cheaper, and never have to deal with batteries.
The end of your original post is somewhat strange to me though. Out of the three times I've owned Logitech mice, two of them were terrible (the one that was good happened to be $15 at Wal-mart--the other two were gaming mice). But the four Razer products I've owned are amazing. Guess each person has a different experience.

I've owned the same Logitech MX500 cordless mouse and keyboard set for almost 6 years. Even Diablo 2 didn't wear it out! 5 years of wow and it's just now dieing. It just will not charge.
TBH after using a cordless mouse for so long it feels weird to play with a corded one. The clutter, the cord catching on things.. Also I use my PC as an entertainment center; being able to use my mouse from the couch is a necessity. It's also the pre-dominant reason I haven't simply purchased a G5 or death adder / lachesis. Being set on cordless really diminishes my selection.
I know I'm comfortable with the old MX500 and it's successors, the razer products are much closer to that style then the current cordless offerings from Logitech. Having the right mouse is so important... but it's not worth $150 in my mind.
/sigh

The one thing I don't like about my Mamba is the battery life... I don't get much playtime before the battery goes out and I have to recharge it...

Using a Razer Deathadder myself.
It's wired, so probably not going to be your favourite perhaps. But my experience with it; Love it.
When I first bought it (it's one of the cheaper Razers ) I thought it'd be a bit big, but after a couple of days of playing I wouldn't go back to my old (smaller) Logitech.
I'd recommend this one to anyone.
*and as a side-note; I try to wire everything Have a Mac Mighty Mouse that works with bluetooth aswell, but it's really not a gaming mouse x) Enough buttons, but its almost impossible to properly right-click/hold

I loved using the Logitech MX518, however it didn't fit my hand very well.
Next mouse was the Razer Deathadder, which was absolutely perfect. Light weight, comfortable and accurate. The only downside was that it had two less buttons than the 518.
A month or so ago I purchased a Razer Mamba, the wireless equivalent of the Deathadder. Only issue I've had with it is occasionally it stops responding for a second or so, most likely due to the fact I'm using Windows 7 RC.
However, after using the Mamba now I wouldn't have bothered "upgrading" from the Deathadder.
Have had no issues with battery life. When you shut down the PC just leave it on the dock before the PC finishes shutting down and it will charge while the PC is off.
You have to turn the mouse off on the bottom if you put your PC to sleep, and can't charge it while the PC is in sleep otherwise it will turn the PC back on randomly.

ive found the mx revolution to be the best really. has more buttons than any other mouse ive seen (sans the new razer with the 12 little thumb buttons). ive tried a few others and couldnt adjust to losing all the room i have with the mx. steep price, but well worth it imo...

MX Revolution all the way. I've been using the cordless monster mice for years and this is the best they have ever made.

Razer sits at work now and is retired to a Steelseries Ikari at the moment. Would buy either again. Never had issues with the Razer.
Cheers!

Honestly, I use the MX518, as well as a lot of others on this Thread. I love it, and will use it for a while, I've had it sense it pretty much came out, so a few years now. Although I plan on replacing it in not to long, as well as my keyboard. I plan on getting the WoW Mouse and either the Logitech G15 or 619 Keyboard, or the Razer Lycosa. Their both great keyboards. Alongside the Logitech Keyboard, I'll be purchasing the G13 Gamepad, which I think will be very nice for macro's in Arena's.

I have both the G5 (old Orange/Black/Silver) and Razer Mamba. I'll use my G5 when my Mamba is charging.
