Liquid Cooling?

I recently put together a new computer and I'm looking into adding a liquid cooling system to it. What can you all tell me about liquid cooling? I don't really know much about it.

I honestly don't think I need it. I'm not running it overclocked and the tower is well ventilated (Cooler Master Cosmos S). So is there even a reason to have it?

BTW here she is;

i7 920
evga x58 motherboard
thermaltake 750w
single gtx 260
500gb 7200 sata hard drive
6gb kingston hyperx 1600 ddr3
onboard sound/network
cooler master cosmos s case

run one of the fan utilitys that will give you core temperature on your processors. My guess if you got the right fans and not overclocked it is not woth the money.

It's expensive, you have to maintain it (clean and refill periodically), and there is some potential to leak on your expensive components. If you're not overclocking, then I'd recommend not bothering.

Alright, my CPU's been running around 28'C when playing games and such. That's not high at all... I think...

I guess I'll go without the liquid cooling.

I use liquid cooling, I use an Intel Core 2 Duo E6850(3.0 Ghz), and my Northbridge water block happened to leak on me. So my computer is still out of commission for the time being, as my Motherboard shorted out on me. If I would've recognized the Water before attempting to turn it on. I wouldn't be in this situation, all I would've had to do is let it dry out.

Other than that, which the computer was owned by someone before me, and they had no problems for 2 years, and I used it for about 5-6 months. So I guess it just happens over time. I use a Koolance Case, which are specifically designed for watercooling. It's pretty nice IMO, runs very cool, as I recall, my CPU runs roughly 14C idle. Although I plan on replacing some fans, tubing, and reseating all my waterblocks when I get my new motherboard, so I'm sure it'll drop quite a bit.

Back in the days of required Overclocking to get reasonable max-settings graphics performance in modern generation games, Liquid cooling had a place.

Now, not so much unless you have some insane silencing requirements....which likely would be nullified by graphics card, hard drive, case fans, or even psu fans noise output.

Frankly...take the money you would have budgeted for a liquid cooling system, buy some better airflow/lower rpm case/cpu/gpu/psu fans, or spend the money on more actual horsepower.

As a point of reference, I'm running a i7 grade cpu with the stock intel heatsink fan, with wow at ultra and usually 3-5 virtual machines running in the background, and rarely exceed 50 degrees C. The things just don't seem to blow that hot anymore

Well I agree, air can be very nice, and quiet. Although for my next build I'll be using the Antec 1200 Case, as it seems to be one of the nicest for optimum airflow.
