DK Threat

Tested all the DK abilities which would take up the 1unholy+1frost rune slot of your rotations.

those skills being, Howling Blast, Obliterate, Death Strike, Scourge Strike

Of all these, far as most TTPS *total threat per second*

Death Strike even after the 3.1 changes, seems to still hold the most benefit for tanking with the highest single or multi target threat gaining of these type attacks. This is cause of its dual aspect when doing threat based on its dmg TPS and Healing TPS. This was tested with each attack type being Glyphed to its most increased state as well as Spec'd to provide the best boost to each.

Only time Death strike was not the highest TPS was in a heavy frost spec. However, this was only by a very small margin.

Thank you very much for this, I'm working on some info for Blood specifically for my blog. And this info has proven very helpful. I do wonder about one thing in particular however. How does the Glyph of Rune Tap work into the equation?

Currently you have it listed as just healing × 0.5 + 55, split between all mobs, but I would assume that with the glyph the added healing for other people in the raid would somehow figure into this, possibly dividing the number added to the formula by the number healed. Or would it divide the total threat by the number of people healed.

In other words would it be like this:
healing x 0.5 + 55 ( amount others healed divided by number of people healed ), split between all mobs. Yeah I know ... it gets complicated.

I haven't tested the Glyph of Blood Tap for threat. I wouldn't make any assumptions about how much threat the healing generates and who gains it. Healing threat has been notoriously inconsistent between various DK abilities and effects, sometimes being unaffected by presence and in other cases generating no threat at all.

So I went ahead and tested the Glyph of Rune Tap.

Turns out that you gain no threat from the healing you do to others in your party. The people you heal also gain no threat from the healing.

So in other words the glyph does nothing for your threat generation except for the minuscule increase in the healing done to you and its associated threat.

Yes, most paladins will pull threat off a DK easily. The trick is knowing how to counter it. Essentially you need to use 3 abilities at once to get agro back.

Hero Class no longer

The fault is Blizzards (ultimately)... that being said... the outcry that DKs were OP and that less threat than damage is a bug has led to the complete loss of a Hero Class toon. DKs are merely normal now... which defeats the purpose of their existence.

Had Blizzard thought about what they were doing, then they might not have rolled out the DK when they did...

Such things point to the fact that "bugs" and OP tendencies were actually originally by design for a Hero Class toon... which we have no more... LOL

That being said... I return to seek the info that will help me keep up with tanking tips to keep my DK up at the top of the tanking list.

Thanks Cinderhelm for all of your work and help!

Any chance you could give a value to Blood Caked Weapon strikes? Im taking it out of my tank spec but it was there so i thought i would ask. I was just too lazy to change it sooner since my DK wasnt a high priority of mine...... now that its got some decent gear it kind of is.
