cries of a low dps enh shaman

im an enhancement shammy and these few weeks since i hit 80 and been in raids etc ive noticed ive had surprisingly low dps compared to others in my party.
i know enh shaman arent the best dps'rs but ive actually had a few fights where even the tank/s have outdone me in damage... =S

i think im pretty decently geared, well for naxx at least, but im just not seeing any results...

heres my gear in armoury
The World of Warcraft Armory
if you can give any suggestions on any improvements i can make id appreciate

Hello Viziel,
first of all I'm not really sure this forum or forum category is supposed to handle any shaman questions, however since you already posted and I felt the need to be nice I guess there is no harm in replying. If your topic gets removed my answer gets removed aswell right?

The problem isn't really your gear (even tho you really should get that helm socketed :P)

The problem lies in your specc. You need to go further into the elemental tree so that you get elemental fury. That's where the dps comes from.
To show you the difference I'll link my armory for you so that you can check my gear and specc. However keep in mind that I don't do any PvE with my shammy anymore except for VoA 10/25 for PvP drops so my specc is currently an experimental PvP specc and all the gear I have is offspecc rolled (resto main specc). All I want you to see by linking is that I don't have that much better gear (mainly naxx) but the dps clocked in PvE specc at 2.9k vs the target dummy and above 2k on emalon 25 man in PvP specc.
Not really sure why it differs so much tbh..

The World of Warcraft Armory

I hope it helps your dps out a bit and never forget, chain lightning on every 5 maelstrom stack is the way to go.

Also bear in mind that you need to be as close to the hit cap for spells (367 hit rating) as you can without sacrificing to much stats even as enhancement to gain great numbers in the dps list. That's where the dmg comes from!

Good luck in the future!

Yep, this is indeed the right forum. Tankspot was originally for tanks but we've branched out a DPS section for those tank classes, and then we decided to just open the floor for any DPS that wishes to speak out. So you could see a bunch of threads like this and it's fine

First and foremost.. your spec is... subpar at best.

Talent Calculator - World of Warcraft

that is a spec I just threw together. It doesnt have imp strength of earth totems, but it has unleashed rage. You can alternate the points as you see fit. One of the most important things as an enhancement shaman is this.

You run frostbrand weapon on your offhand, windfury on your main. BOTH weapons need to be slow weapons. 2.4 - 2.6 in speed. You need to keep lightning shield up at all times. Also, you need to make sure you keep magma totem down. It does a HEFTY amount of damage. This was something out enhancement shaman always seemed to not notice at first. Granted, on some fights its just pointless to try (such as grobulus) but on almost every fight in naxx, magma totem needs to be down.

As an enhancement shaman you do not stack spell power.. period. You get SP from your ap. One of the best things to get at first will be hit rating and expertise rating. They hinder your dps alot by missing/dodging windfurys and your normalized attacks.

Also, reading a bit more, I don't know which you're supposed to run on your offhand these days weapon enhancement wise.. Either flametongue or frostbrand. You'll have to ask someone else for that advice. This should give you some steps in the right direction though.

Also, when maelstrom weapon procs.. if chain lightning is off cd, use it over lightning bolt.. it does more damage (or did, they may have nerfed it too. You'll have to check into it)

There is a FAQ on MMO as a start point

*PvE Enhancement Shaman in Wrath FAQ*

Running you into dps simulator I get horrible DPS around 1200 DPS I really hope they are out.

RAWR and MaxDPS.com - World of Warcraft Gear Rankings - News have simulators if you care to play

Hey there, as a shaman that loves all of the shaman specs and has played them all I thought I'd drop my two cents.

The World of Warcraft Armory

That is the build I would probably use. I saw that most of the other builds on this thread include frozen power and non of them included enhancing totems. I personally do not see the advantage of frozen power in a raid; enhancing totems however provides a nice increase in Str to the whole raid.

As a shaman you will almost never be the top DPS. And why should you be? Shaman are a buff class, an entire raid's DPS is higher because you're there. So while you're not the highest DPS class out there, you most certainly provide the most buffs and raid enhancement tools.

The most importent thing though is to have fun, if you dont enjoy a spec, dont use it.

This is the spec you wanna use to max out your dps.
Try getting ShockandAwe it will help with your rotation
Frozen Power is a pvp talent. You should use WF/FT on your weapons
Your wolves do a decent margin of your dps, use them often, and if your going to Bloodlust, use your wolves first so they get the buff.
Agility is your key stat.
Maxing out Ancestral Knowledge is not a big deal, its not worth much as far as dps goes.
If there is someone else in a raid that can put down Flametougne use your magma totem even on single target.
