| | | Arms warriors, DPS on boss dummy?
Currently I'm only able to do 2700 DPS on the boss dummy, which I think is quite low. My stats are:
3480 AP
7% hit
40% crit
5.75% exp.
and 4.5% haste.
This is in case my armory isn't updated properly. I'm using some hunter pieces because I pick up DPS pieces for offspec, so unfortunately I am unable to max hit and expertise at the moment. Does this seems very low on the dummy with the kind of gear I have?

Don't worry that much about your dps on the training dummies, I think I only did like 2.8k on dummies when I was testing but usually do 4-5k in raids. Warriors gain a lot from raidbuffs. Just use the dummies to get a good feel for your rotation/priorities.

btw, ur dps as arms will be messed up on boss dummy due to the fact that their at 1% all the time and when you execute from sudden death im pretty sure it counts as a regular below 20% execute, making ur dps go down, please correct me if im wrong on that

Sort of.
Sudden Death procs when the target is below 20% cause you to do a SD Execute (not full rage).
The boss dummy is often at low HP because it regens health slowly and people beat on it all the time. That itself will skew your dps check via always having execute available (sure you could only do it when SD is up, but checking that buff probably would throw off your rotation anyways).

Any idea what the standard fight for checking Boss DPS would be now? The best one I think can of is probably Kolgarn.
I'm a bit less worried now to hear that dummy DPS is considerably lower than real raid DPS. Hopefully I'll get a chance to test out my real DPS soon.

Kologarn can give skewed resulted as WW and Bladestorm can hit both arms. Just popping Sweeping Strikes and Bladestorm a couple times during the fight and I am at the top. I am thinking a few good fights for melee to check their DPS would be XT, Ignis and General. All these fights require little to no movement as melee. You just need a little luck on your side not to get a bomb, be put in the pot or be assigned interupting duties.

Ignis is the best.
XT's heart will inflate your dps, and General has a haste debuff which will depress your dps (although not that badly surprisingly).
Of course the classic is Patchwerk.
Heroic bosses can give you a skewed result too, since the lower level means slightly more crits and they also have less armor (and you could cheese it by dropping some of your hit and expertise for something else too), but there are lot of boss tank and spanks and those are if nothing else good 'live' practice.
I'm thinking Omokk and Keri in Nexus, Moorabi in Gundrak, almost all the bosses in CoS, ect.

If you use a DK to tank general (which requires no movement during the entire boss fight for melees). I would say it's a better "dummy" in action.
Kologarn is not fair for rogues and druid as they can't do anything from behind. Thus even if you top the chart (which you should) that really doesn't mean too much.
XT-002 is all about luck: I've got 2 gravity bomb and 2 lightning bomb in a row... |

but in General Vezax he gives you a -20% haste debuff, and designated Interrupts will lower dps.

To be honest those terget dummies are useless for testing DPS as opposed to a *real* raid situation. Sure, they can help with rotations but DPS will never be anything like it is on a raid boss.
I max out at 2200 on Boss Target Dummy, yet am pushing 5k and over in raids.
Use them to practice, not to compare DPS.

Use the dummy's for a dps comparison "checkpoint" and working on your rotation.
- Try a rotation for a while, check your dps.
- Try a new rotation, check your dps.
You can still attempt to squeeze out as much dps as you can from a target dummy. Even if it's only 2.8k. If you change your rotation slightly and squeeze out 3k dps - you're doing something right.
If you go down to 2.5k - you're old rotation was better.
It's certainly not somthing where you would say to your raid leader, "I can pull 2.8k dps" when in a real raid environment you will be over that in most cases.
It may not be far off of a heroic 5 man though, depending on your group makeup.

If you change your rotation slightly and squeeze out 3k dps - you're doing something right. | As a Warrior you need to test specs/rotations in a raid setting, because rage generation has a large impact on our DPS. You're only ever going to get realistic rage generation in a raid.

Can we get a moving boss dummy?
Also how long does everyone measure their dps/rotation on a boss dummy.
Generally I try and wait for the 4th bladestorm to proc. It is about 5 minutes so it will span a decent portion of a boss fight.

Interesting thread... i've recently been asked to respec for DPS, as the guild is bringing in a DK tank for the third spot, and i've been told i should aim for 3.5k dps on the dummy... is that a realistic goal? or will it be impossible to achive due to the lack of raid buffs?

arms is very buff/debuff dependant. Your dps on a target dummy will always be much, much less then a raid situation due to the amount of gain we get in the buffs/debuffs. Seriously, most arms warriors who 'make it' in a raid situation (such as myself) are really disgusted by the shoddy numbers on target dummies.
Not only that, bladestorm, cleave, (whirlwind if in zerker for aoe pulls I suppose) will affect the numbers differently as well. Really, patchwerk is the best test for dps rotations in a raid situation, and go by that as your benchmark.

When arms warriors lack raid buffs, the main problem isn't that our individual attacks are weak, but it's that we don't general enough rage to fill our GCDs.
Napkin math, you'll probably do 25-50% of your gcds as slam. If you don't have rage to slam... that's a lot of dps you're leaving on the table.
Just for fun I ran to a dummy and autoattacked it. I did ~700 DPS.
Then I ran in, autoattacks and MS: I did ~1500 dps.
Then I ran in and autoattacked and kept rend up, I did ~1000 dps.
Then my raid summons came and I stopped my stupid experiment. But you can see how much more damage using those gcds nets you versus trying to increase the damage of each attack. That's where our raid buffage really pays off (doesn't hurt that we scale well with crit too getting deep wound, enrage, blood frenzy, and trauma up).

I just went and tested my DPS on a dummy, I'm pulling around 3400 dps.
My stats are...
70 haste
3213 AP
317 Hit
31.80 Crit
15 Expertise
60% ArP
I'm using the rotation Rend>Execute>Overpower>Mortal Strike>Sunder>Slam
My guild doesn't brink Prot warriors, so the DPS warriors are stuck sundering.
This is also popping my usable trinket every cooldown for an extra 670 attack power.
Also as for my timing, I throw up Battle Shout right before I start, and I go until the last rend tick once my Battle Shout falls off. So about 5 min.
Hope this helps out for DPS comparison.

also make sure your fallowing the priority list exactly, and always let rend fall off the target before re applying it
