| | | why only duel spec?
Seems to me that a lot of us really have three specs - Tank, DPS and PvP, so why did Blizz stop at only two? Seems you should have n+1 numbers of specs where n = the number of roles your class can fill.
i.e. mage = 2 specs dps and pvp
warrior = 3 specs, tank, dps and pvp
but then things get crazy when you go to druids - tank, dps(x2), heals and pvp - i guess that's why they stopped at two
I don't know, just frustrating to me that although it fixes the majority of my problems (switching fury to prot) it'd still be nice to be able to arena competitively also without having to spend more gold when other classes don't have to.

this should be good enough, the fact of the matter isn't that we shouldn't EVER have to respec again, that isn't the goal, it is that if we need to switch for our specific needs (whether that be raiding and now we need to tank or dps for a different role, or going from PvE to PvP for after raid fun) for the task at hand. Sure some classes have 3 roles, some classes have 2 roles but various ways to spec it. Just because there may be more "variations" upon someones specs doesn't mean that they benefit more or less from this change.

I guess one of the main objectives was to stop swapping people out during a raid which this would help with. Just seemed to me either talents are fairly rigid or they're not, and if they're not, why then draw the line at two.
At least with inflation the 50g for a respec will be cheap for those of us who still want to respec beyond that...

Had an intersting thought...with the changes to spellpower, if you had a shaman who's main spec was ele, 2nd spec enhance, you could theoretically heal decently as ele spec with heal gear....3 specs |

Personally, I think its pretty cool, though a lot of people take issue with it, and feel it cheapens the game somehow. I don't see it myself though, but yeah I have to agree there are really an almost unlimited number of ways you could spec, this just means way less downtime, and more of a reason to pick up that "off spec" gear. Heh no more off spec anymore ;D

The only reason you would need to spec Fury is if you wanted to compete for top spot on the meters. They've said that a Protection Warrior will be able to do 'decent' DPS while not tanking with a 1h + Shield. So you'd still have 1 tank + 1 PvP spec.
But as stated - I think you will have to make a decision about which 2 you want to pick. 3/4 healing classes have trees even more diverse than our trees. They could have a much harder time choosing which 2 to pick.

Don't be so greedy. Be glad you get a duel spec.

Yeah Ande I know what you mean and I suppose the pvp spec might not be horrible dps either, just seems that a lot of us like to min/max which inevitably means a full on dps spec and if we tank or pvp then one of those too.
Lol Edge - As I said duel spec still helps, and it helps a lot, I don't consider it greedy to say why did they decide two specs when personally I'd like three specs. I'm not saying they should give us more either. The logical conclusion to most arguments either for or against would be to end up with never changing talents or freely allocating talents at anytime in which case why bother with em anyway.

without thinking too much about it i'd say that 2 specs would have been the best option other wise talents would become like gear.....ie this mob has fears everyone equip your antifear talents...this mob casts everyone equip stun talents....
It just seems that they wanted more flexibility for some classes which they couldn't do without compunding balance issues if they did it via tree changes. This allows them to maintain balance by comparing cookie cutter specs against each other. 2 specs allows 2 roles meaning you would most likely hold your raid spots if everyone had 2 specs as you could assist the raid as a DPS or as a Tank.....sure you cant heal but other classes can so in theory you may drop a tank to a dps slot then move an enhanced shammy to a resto spec to produce the same gain as hearthing and respeccing DPS or even worse replacing your char with a DPS specced caster.
if they add more specs then people would have multiple DPS specs with the afformentioned variables of fear mobs, caster mobs etc etc.....
i would think that 2 was the perfect number really as it allowed this flexibility without allowing for tailoring specs for mobs.
I do however agree that there should be a PVP spec that you can choose for BGs/Arenas only or something that will remove the 3rd spec problem from everyone that PVPs.
as far as i can tell it should stop the PVE issues but still require people to pay for PVP specs.......this may be an intentional restriction to stop people from respeccing to PVP and doing BGs while they are LFG for an instance every time they log in and would encourage people to do dailys and quests while LFG before paying 50 gold to enter welfare epics queues.
If you have to pay 50 gold to start BG queues and need to spend 50 gold everytime you go to a raid because you swap your second spec between a PVP/Offspec slot then you are more likely to hold onto your specs for as long as you can and makes working out what people are focusing on in the game easier for blizzard.
in conclusion i can see 3 specs being abused if the 3rd spec is not restricted to PVP areas only. 2 is flexible 3 is exploitable.

Any one know how this mechanic will work? Do you have to be ooc to swap, wil it have a cd time before you can swap again? Will it be a baseline ability or something unlocked from a quest or acheivment.

Do you have to be ooc to swap? | Yes. You must be OOC and it will not be usable in Arenas or BGs.
[W]ill it have a cd time before you can swap again? | There will be no meaningful cooldown. You should be able to switch back and forth essentially at will.
Will it be a baseline ability or something unlocked from a quest or acheivment. | No word on this from blues yet.
