a very simple question about dodge and parry

does 1% dodge equals to 1% parry?
why do people always suggest going dodge > parry > block (if any)

what about rating? does 20 dodge rating equals to 20 parry rating?

also, does it differs between classes? if it does, please relate it to DK tanks

thanks

Short answer: 1% is 1%, regardless of avoidance type (miss, dodge, parry). Also, rating conversion is equal as of patch 3.2, but diminishing returns are a lot harsher for parry rating, hence the greater value of dodge rating in general.

The link above says it all, but the short-hand, simple answer for DK's is:

1% Dodge = 1% Parry

20 dodge rating is not the same as 20 parry rating, as Khordam said, the different cap that they diminish to makes it so you still get more % return out of dodge rating.

If you're looking to maximize avoidance from gems, as a DK, you Parry rating will never give you more avoidance (or threat) than Dodge rating because of our Forceful Deflection trait (25% Str => Parry rating).
