Taunt hitcap changed?

We were doing Thorim hardmode last night and I had 273 hitrating, which translates to about 8,3% chance to hit. However, I had about 5 tauntresists on him (which resulted in wipe since our feral got oneshotted after that). When I swapped my expertise boots to hitboots from Ignis25, I didn't get a single miss on taunt (about 9,3% chance to hit at that point).

Has anyone else noticed such anomalies? I can recall seeing a lot of misses on my screen over the past few days on Ulduar bosses. Most noticable one was Kologarn25...

I too must admit my taunt being resisted a lot in Ulduar. i am starting to just say BAH and get the taunt glyph, because it is getting annoying.

It's 17% chance to resist on taunt (check EJ). It never changed as far as I have seen though. Taunt is still a spell (can't taunt while silenced for example). Back in the BC days they added the ability for melee hit to affect it, but never changed it's cap, at least according to testing on EJ..

Don't forget the diminishing returns on taunts nowadays...if someone's just taunted the mob you have, your taunt has 50% increased chance to fail.

Me and two guildies re-tested the taunt miss rate right before the Ulduar patch and it still had a 17% chance to miss.

Taunt changes in 3.1

I could swear that the only times my taunts ever got resisted before 3.1 was when I was below 8% hit. 9% chance to miss with 8% hit is a lot, and having 0,5% below 8% managed to actually wipe us once on KT as my taunt, mocking blow and CS all missed. But post 3.1, taunt has become resisted more and more... never past 9%, often at 8%. Maybe Ulduar bosses have been slightly altered?

Keep in mind that you are not converting your numbers. Your 8% MELEE hit in your character sheet increases your chance for taunt to hit by more than 8%. The conversion for spell hit percentage per rating point is better than it is for melee hit.

8% Melee Hit gives approximately 10% Spell Hit.

There is also the matter of the mob possibly becoming taunt immune? If you or others were all trying to pick it up, or you were trying repeatedly, possibly it didn't work because the mob had become temporarily immune?

This I've been seeing. I'm only melee hit capped and I don't recall ever having a taunt miss, and I would notice.

Go taunt a level ?? training dummy with 8% hit on. You'll see your miss eventually. Very, very easy to test.

I'll vouch for this guy, i have a constant 9% melee hit rating and on Thorim I was missing once for twice a fight. Although this was only on 10man, 25man I didn't have this issue.

<3 shadow priests and boomkin who can provide an additional 3% spell miss reduction.
