| | | Trial of the Champion First Encounter
So is the first encounter in Trial buggy for everyone else? We went in on heroic, cleared all 3 of the little mini bosses by jousting, kept them trampled, they didnt' despawn and just kept wandering over and re-mounting.
So we zone out and try it on normal mode just to figure out what's going on. Got all 3 down, the blood elf chick remounts, we get dismounted, and she starts casting spells while mounted and stunning us. We all zone out/die, zone back in and the encounter's reset to the "proper" encounter, with faction champions up and we finish it off.
Then back to Heroic mode, and we get all 3 champions dismounted.
At one point on normal mode we had all 3 champions up *and* the loot chest for completing the encounter had popped.
They did test this, right?

Must have been bad timing for you Lyci.... Puged the 5 normal and heroic last night and could not make it past the Faction bosses on Heroic. Not sure if it was a bad group, although we breezed threw 5 normal with no bugs or clitches, but the heroic seemed quite more difficult than the normal. We pulled a Healer, Caster dps and Melee dps the first time and Healer, Caster dps and Ranged dps(Archer)the second time. Any suggestions how to handle the attack order? |

Went through it last night with friends on both normal and then heroic. Normal was no problem, as we're geared pretty well, but we died once on the champions in heroic.
I suggest going after Colosso (or whatever his name is) first, as he's a healer. Then I'd aim for any casters or ranged dps, as they generally have lower armor and can be taken down faster. The last target for us was the melee tank (human champion, I think), but you have to be careful because he has a whirlwind that can screw up your dps melees, and a move that throws the tank a distance away. Not a huge problem for a warrior, but it can hurt for others.
The other big piece of advice I can give is to keep someone watching the champions when you down them from their mounts - they'll try to run to another mount, so just whack them and they'll be put down for another 15 seconds or so. If they remount, they'll have about 25% health.
When they all get taken down, everyone needs to dismount and take them on foot (don't forget to re-equip your weapon instead of the lance!). This can suck for the tank because the champions will start fighting whoever they're near, so watch your positioning when you're dismounting the last champion!
Even if you do wipe after the dismount, you can run back in and go straight into fighting the champions, so it's not a huge problem.

You don't even need to whack them, just ride over them. They'll get a "trampled" debuff and they'll stay where they are. We usually had one person peel off and just keep them trampled while everyone else downed the champions.
We did have one bug where, after we'd won and the loot chest spawned, one of the champions went aggressive and invulnerable. We zoned out to reset and it was fine after that.

I've found if you unmount them and they didn't boot you off your mount you can unmount yourselves and go and hit one of them and it should start the 2nd part of the encounter.

We got through the heroic encounter fine, but trying the normal one, one of the riders respawned after we'd started the second part of the fight and decided to spend the rest of the fight trampling us all. He didn't go away even when we all left the instance - just camped the doorway. Ho hum, hopefully they'll get the bugs fixed.

the first encounter bugs out if somebody that dies releases and runs back into the instance. If you can at least get them attackable and on the ground, but a mount is still up and you wipe the encounter resets to phase 2 though.

The first encounter in Heroic was a little buggy for my group as well. We had everyone down, but one of them mounted up and wiped us. When we went back in, they were all on foot and attackable for us with no problem.

We actually spent quite a while on the jousting as we were waiting to be auto-dismounted. And then when we decided to manually do it we were super cautious as some of the champions were by the horses.
Sounds like we were right and there is a race condition where the players can dismount and the champions end up mounted instead of going into the next phase.
Oh ya... be sure to re-equip your weapons after jousting. I think our Mage didn't realize until half way through Paletress' trash.

I was doing the heroic version last night, first time...
We knocked Colosos, a mage and a rogue off their mounts and then proceeded to get owned. The healer was checking his log parse and the rogue was doing 64% of the damage to me (DK tank). Is there a way to counteract the poison? Also what would be the best order in killing these bastards? Can they be poly'ed?

Agree with the above post for Heroic our group got owned by the 3 mini bosses in HtH.
We tried rougue first 2 or 3 times with her aoe poison effect we died dead.
We then tried the little mage laster a little longer as I was trying to slow kite away from the rogues aoe posion and we laster a little longer but not much.
Is one of them a healer? We just kept getting the Warrior, Mage and I thought Rouge.
Is this all about the healer overhealing the tank in H mode or do you really need to have a geared group?
After 5th wipe we did nomral for loot and just kicked through it no problem 3 times in a row. 2nd time 3 people died during the mini bosses except me(tank) and the healer I was able to maintain aggro beat on them and she kept me alive until the rest ran back into the instance to help out again. That was fun :-)

I've done this twice.
First time was warrior, mage, hunter - no problem. Also had an all ranged group so the warrior didn't gib dpsers. Spell reflect/interrupting the mage and disarm/burning the warrior and ignoring the hunter worked pretty well.
Second time was warrior, mage, paladin (really a shaman). It was really difficult. I'm not sure if I was suffering from lag but I was getting knocked back/stunned by both the warrior and the mage. This of course caused the warrior to rush in a WW in bad spots. Also they got a few heals off which just extended the fight. You *must* down the healer asap.
Our hunter got a fat immune when he tried to frost arrow the mage the second time around. Not sure if that means they're immune to all CC, I really wanted out shammy to hex but I don't think he tried.

for the first encounter I did it on normal no harms done really easy.
Heroic was hard but I found out a trick for the healer, mage, rogue combo. get your dps to focus on the healer, as you kite the healer and rogue through the arena keep moving so the poison cloud don't hurt you that much. mage should stay on you as long as you press your spell reflect. go on the mage then attack the rogue. Paletress gave us trouble but my party was being stupid and telling our druid to tank her although I don't have a dps dual spec yet /sigh

is there an agro dump after everyone dismounts? as far as i can tell, whether i've been tanking, dpsing, or healing this encounter - the champions will go after a seemingly random party member. one thought is that they are keeping the agro table from the jousting.
we've resorted to having everyone run our after the jousting and then zone back in and start the fight again on foot.

I am wondering the same thing. I finally had a group last night (i pug) that was able to joust them all down near to eachother. I had noone dps ing did TC and SW then they just ran all over so i did aoe taunt SS dev TC and they were off for the races again after that.
My healer complained that he couldnt target anyone (hes using standard ui) and log showed noone doing dps.
I could have understood if some of them went for teh healer since he would be healing me but after my aoe taunt tc and sw they went after dps that hadnt done damage on them.
After we zoned back in it was easy.
TOnight ill try to have some of them just stabbing the riders and me doing the charging itself to see if that helps to get initial agro on me but to me this part looks weird.

what kind of gear do you need to tank this instance? | Same gear as any other heroic, I suppose. But H ToC is a little tougher than most other instances, so keep that in mind.

what kind of gear do you need to tank this instance? | If you are running heroics run normal ToC the drops are great then move up to Heroic. The heroic mode of this is 10X harder than normal mode only because of the first 3 bosses and phase 2 of the BK.
Typical strat now is to run out after jousting then come back in to fight the 3 bosses.
Make sure you knwo the order to kill the bosses Drainia first if he is there because he heals, the rogue always last, The warrior and Mage it just depends.
