Undying/Immportal v2.0

In Ulduar, the no-death achievement is worded as follows:

"Defeat each boss in Ulduar on Heroic Difficulty without allowing any raid member to die to that boss at any point during that raid lockout period."

For comparison, The Immortal is worded as follows: "Within one raid lockout period, defeat every boss in Naxxramas on Heroic Difficulty without allowing any raid member to die during any of the boss encounters"

How do you feel that Immportal v2.0 will function as compared to current Immortal?

I interpret it as saying this achievement can done over several weeks as long as for each boss, there is a raid ID where no deaths occured during THAT boss attempt.

Well original undying/immortal is tied to the raid id. Meaning if you wipe on a first boss (say, Razuvious) you can, in theory, disband the raid start a new one and as long as you get a new raid ID you can get the achievement. Now, I read this as possibly somehow being tracked at the player level (perhaps in the raidinfo window, or with that data) and makes me think if you go into ulduar and one person dies on a boss regardless of starting a new ID it shouldn't be achievable that week regardless of who those people group with...but I could easily be wrong.

Regardless it's still a freaking miserable achievement. Less luck based? Absolutely...but still Blizzard fails with this achievement. I think everyone will agree that until you're overgeared for the encounter you won't get this achievement unless you get some significant luck...yet a lot of guilds at that point will by trying to master hard modes. Creating achievements that create incentive to complete an encounter the easiest way possible, instead of the most difficult way your guild can manage not to mention the way that gives the best loot, is very very poor design.

So each week you'll be forced with the choice. Try for the achievement on easy (because why add the extra pressure of trying for it in a hard mode) or doing the hard mode way and gear out your raid better for attempts next week. Fantastic.

I hope this changes before 3.1 finally goes live.

So are you saying you believe that immortal in Naxx and immortal in Ulduar will have the same mechanic? If so, why the change in the wording?

Well, isn't the point of these achievements specifically for those that overgear it, as an additional challenge?

I mean, I don't think many people go into Naxx 10 for the first time 2 weeks after hitting 80 on their main character and go "Man, let's go for Undying tonight!"

Eventually, I could see people doing each of the achievements, hard mode, with no deaths involved... the hard modes either appear to be DPS Checks (Hodir, etc) or Coordination checks (Freya, etc), and those can clearly be done with no deaths in the raid...it's not like a hard mode turns a boss into Teron Gorefiend or Azgalor and gives them an instant death mechanic...

No, I think the mechanic will be different.

The poorly designed ones.

The ones like Shocking and The Safety Dance reward you for properly executing the fight...and having everyone do so.

Same with achievements like twilight assist. That achievement is in CONJUNCTION with the more difficult content.

Then on the other side of the spectrum is one of the worst designed achievements - Gotta Go When the Volcano Blows. The easiest way to achieve that is to let people die and complete the encounter with less people which doesn't typically allow you to try for 3D. Even if that strat wasn't possible it'd still be MUCH easier to have people not dpsing/healing and just running around dodging the things which also would probably preclude you from doing 3D.

achievement for speed kills should be used instead, they tend to be more fun to do than tiptoeing around waiting for that one person to die and ruin the entire night

From what I have seen and heard, ullduar immortal is tracked like the dedicated few achievements in naxx, each boss needs to be one-shotted, but not necesarily in the same ID.

I think it means that you can't wipe on boss X on Friday and go one-shot him on Saturday to 'count' for the achievement.

Yep.

one shot a boss in the first try in an ID and you will get credit for the achievement for that boss.

In other words kill the boss without anyone dying to him in that specific ID.
