Old Crafty

Hey there,

I'm not sure how many people are doing the fishing achivements but if you are you'll have to do the fishing of Old Crafty. For the Horde this is not big of a deal. However for the alliance it is because Old Crafty is only fishable in Orgrimmar.

However the Ogrimmar part is not as hard as it seems, the droprate is what makes this achievement unattractive, it's around .1% according to several sources.

There is a pretty nice spot that is not to hard to get to. Mount up and run through the back entrance of Orgrimmar, guards will hit you but only 3-4 times so dismounting is unlikely, even if you do they hit for less than 300 (crushing, that is). Just keep going right, praying for no hordies and run in between the mage house and the priest trainers hut:

The rock in your back hides you from people turning in cloth or visiting the mage trainers. People coming through portals usually just jump out the window, mount up and are gone. To your right (in-eye wise) there're the priest trainers, blocked by the huge tree. They are the most likely going to see your bobber.

And if you spend enough time you'll soon get:

That is all.
Edgar

Oooh looks helpful but I've a weird question - that water looks pretty deep - any idea if an "unchanged" gnome can fish there?

Also, there's another great spot in the back by the waterfall. Hop on the rocks to the left and wedge yourself in. Type /sleep and lay down (Mission Impossible style) and fish away! Fishing while "sleeping" is a great way to keep a low profile.

Gnomes can indeed fish there. I was fishing with 2 of the little fellas a couple days ago.

yepp been using that spot for some time, 2400 fishes caught and no old crafty.
however think of this.
1. sit or sleep while fishing
2. remove titles from your name to make it shorter and less visible

when it comes to ironjaw, i think i made 300+ casts for it and still nothing.. btw i am alliance

Did you use a potion to keep hunters and druids from seeing you with track humanoids up? Or do they usually leave it off due to the sheer amount of minimap spam it causes?

speaking as a hunter, i usually leave my track humanoids off in major cities just because of the amount of spam it causes, i use things like track beasts for finding that stupid cat vendor in SW, currently track undead to find the invasion mobs or if all else fails track treasure because i'm a greedy dwarf who loots barrels of milk at 70

I didn't use any potions and also didn't get any visits by hunters.

I had priests and mages visit and a shammy even fished with me for like 10 minutes.

Seems that horde are more willing to let the alliance fish in Org than the other way around.

Also I believe it's much harder for a horde player to get into IF to do the alliance equivalent achievement.

You are correct, for Horde it really is a pain in the arse, have to fish in the forlorn caverns, tho there's no hiding spot's, must of been killed a million times mostly because of the achievement City Defender.

I still be fishin I am.

there are apparently some spots at the great forge in the lava you can stand on and not get attacked. i havent tried it yet though.

im speaking from playing horde and fishing up Ironjaw it also depends on your guild/standing on the server which makes this achievment hard. i spent 4 hours straight through during the afternoon/evening and was bugged once by a rogue which thought a naked warrior would be good picking .... after he killed me i rez'd quickly equipped my prot gear and drown his gnome ass in the forlorn caverns. after 3 tries the gnome gave up and io continued fishing.

Try fishing naked its makes the aura that you have no intention of starting problems and alliance ppl are more likely to just pass you by cause they know your trying an achievment.

I posted a thread that shows where it is. If you don't feel like jumping in the lava to get to it I suppose you can stay up top on the side. More likely to be seen though

I had a thought on how to do this more easily. Please note, if you haven't done the epic quest chain in Dragon blight, don't read past this as it may spoil some things for you.

*********Possible Spoilers*************
So I was thinking at the point in the Wrathgate Chain where you head over to Orgrimmar to chill with Thrall for a bit, I wonder if you can work on fishing Old Crafty. You wouldn't have to worry about silly ganking if it works.

Anyone tried that? I have completed the chain up to the point where I need to hand over the shield to the king in SW, but I think I will wait till a morning where I have the time to sit and fish for a while.

It indeed does work. You can also do the achievement for Ragefire Chasm while you're there, and anything else you were meaning to do in Org.

I think this is because pretty much the only Horde that are likely to notice fishing Alliance in Org are also fishermen (and know where to look). Speaking for myself, I never attack Alliance in Org if they are fishing, just /greet.

In Ironforge on the other hand, you pick up random passers by all the time. I spend as much time fighting as fishing in there
