Help with a chat macro

I'm trying to make a macro for spells like taunt, last stand, and shield wall that will display a message to raid chat (if in a raid) or party chat (if in party but not in a raid) when I use the abilities. Is there a way to issue the chat command to send to raid chat if in a raid or party chat if grouped but not in a raid? Can't seem to figure it out.

Thanks.

A macro isn't a good idea since it will announce even if the ability is on cooldown when you hit the button.

Yes it is possible but I have to tell you. I would kick any one using it out of my raid very quickly

If you really must spam. Then I’d suggest make your own channel
Eg.
/join raidtanks
Then open your setting and look at what number is allocated to this channel (eg .5) & put all your spam in that channel.
/5 so & so is walking down the street!
Now any one who wants to get your messages can just /join raidtanks
& it they don’t need/ want to know they don’t need to join.

Well ussnorway, it's actually information that can be very useful for the raid to see. For example, on Al'ar back in the day (you know, before it was nerfed like 9 different times), it was very important information for the raid to know if the tanks got a taunt resist. It involved many different tanks in varying roles, and once Phase 2 started, seeing a taunt resist broadcast immediately is very beneficial. Not to mention the healers knowing the tank has a timer up (last stand, shield wall) and have to adjust accordingly.

If you kick people out of your raid for doing things like that, then I can only assume you're a pretty unenjoyable person to be around.

@ussnorway: Raiding is all about communication. Kicking people out of a raid for communicating is a pretty poor way to run a raid. The OP was looking for a way to communicate with the raid, and figured a macro that would announce taunts was the way to go. Yes it's one way but it does create spam. Thankfully Tankspot is a helpful community and Satrina gave the OP a better suggestion in the thread's first reply. If you weren't going to help the guy out with a macro in your first reply then what was the point?

Unfortunately nobody noticed your;
I just did my last stand!
Post because the mage has a mod spamming;
5 > seconds until his sheep will pop!
4 > seconds until his sheep will pop!
3 > seconds until his sheep will pop!
The warlock has the same thing happening with his banish & at least two people are broadcasting that annoying bigwigs raid info in case someone does not have it installed. At least my way the people who care about their tank popping last stand can have your tank channel in its own little box and not hidden under all the other spam!

We used to have a druid that spammed his mass roar thing in the /tank channel. I think he used the ability on cooldown and had negative hit because we saw his resist what seemed like every 10 minutes. The great part about it, was that it didn't matter that I was pvping and he was running heroic mech, I STILL got to see he was resisted. Private channel announcements are very fail imo; would prefer /raid /rw or vent any day.

That appears to be a problem with whoever you raid with. Stuff like banishes breaking, sheep's breaking/broken, whatever, doesn't need to be broadcast like that. You can easily have like radio-silence when it comes to raid chat and just have tank-exclusive (and highly relevent) things in there.

You seem to be thinking just because your own raiding experiences are awful when it comes to communication, that everyone else's need to be, too.
