Warrior Some Prot War Questions

Greetings.

Please keep in mind I only do 10 man content.

I've been contemplating going Prot/Prot as my two specs (currently Prot/Arms).

I currently employ a very generic tanking spec that consists of your run of the mill points spending, e.g. 15/3/X. I was considering going full on "boss tanking" mode, putting 5/10/X or so, picking up 5/5 Demo, 5/5 TClap and minimize all cooldowns on my Shield Wall and Last Stand by picking up any talents and glyphs that would support them. Has anyone attempted this much specialization before, for maximum cooldown use coupled with maximum debuffs for a single target? My threat would suffer, obviously, but I'm not having issues with threat at the moment, even when I pug 25 man content.

Additionally, I've been contemplating gems that are not just Solid Majestic. I know, blasphemy right? In situations where the socket bonus is +Stamina, I've decided to forgo the 3-6 extra stamina from a Solid Majestic, to match the socket bonus and attempt to pick up some more Expertise, Hit Rating, Dodge, or Parry (depending on what I feel like at the time). Is effective health really everything right now? I would imagine not, but the verdict may be otherwise. To me it would seem like you would need to maintain close-to-max Expertise and Hit so that you do not suffer TPS problems, and then throw on maximum stamina (or sprinkle in some Parry here and there). ~500-800 health really shouldn't matter THAT much all things considered, especially if my TPS and/or Avoidance is raised because of the hand-off.

(Note: If the socket bonuses are not +Stamina related, I probably would forgo the bonus in lieu of a Majestic Zircon.)

Also I'm thinking of using the +Armor trinket from ICC once it drops instead of just two +Stamina for fights that involve a boss swinging at me doing physical damage. (Magical damage based bosses would better be suited for maximum EH.) Anyone else put thought into this as well?

Regards,
-Varagar

Paladin Feeling Squishy

Hey all, been a long time TankSpot reader and finally decided to start posting.

I've been a prot pally for quite a while and I lean towards old school stats such as the classic 102.4% avoidance and whatnot, even though I know it's not really needed anymore. I'm having issues with the, seemingly, big focus on stamina stacking once you hit def cap. I, personally, feel so very squishy even when I'm sporting 48k hp raid buffed.

Armory - The World of Warcraft Armory (http://www.wowarmory.com/character-sheet.xml?r=Moonrunner&n=Eldwynn)

Is there any advice for how I can improve gear/spec whatever? I recently changed spec to what is showing in the Armory there but as a prot pally I'm not seeing much of a use for Divine Sacrifice, though the buff from Divine Guardian is nice.

I have the Black Heart trinket in there because I feel the armor proc gives me more then just adding the other Brewfest trinket till I get scarabs from ToC25. I also have avoidance focused trinkets, though with the focus seemingly on stamina stacking, I'm not sure if I should be using them:
[Fervor of the Frostborn (http://www.wowhead.com/?item=47727)]
[Purified Onyxia Blood Talisman] - Purified Onyxia Blood Talisman - Item - World of Warcraft (http://www.wowhead.com/?item=49487)

Our guild is currently on Anub in 25 ToC and are starting to move on ToGC10. Any help on where I may improve some things gear/spec/whatever would be greatly appreciated.

[A] PVE-US <Machiavellis Cat> casualcore 3/5 TotGC seeking tank!

Who: Machiavellis Cat, on the PvE PST Uldum server (http://www.machiavelliscat.com)
When: Tuesdays, Thursdays, and some Mondays from 6-9pm PST
What: Looking for a skilled tank, preferably DK or bear
Why: To kill Heroic Twins, Anub, and anything ICC will throw at us

Do you like doing damage to bosses, sassing your guild members, and the Princess Bride? Does seeing someone type 'ur dum' make you break out in hives? Are you okay working with insane rocket scientist paladins?

Machiavellis Cat was created in May, 2005, and has had virtually the same leadership since its inception. We started raiding at the tail end of classic WoW (Ragnaros down, woo!), but vowed to become a little more focused in TBC. MCats engaged Illidan before 3.0 hit, and completed Sarth 3D pre-3.1.

We are a "casualcore" guild, which means we take our nine hours a week of raiding seriously, but as adults we also know that real life can be a harsh mistress. With limited time to raid each week, we believe very strongly in being prepared, informed, and punctual.

MCats raid three times a week -- Tuesday, Thursday, and Monday from 6-9pm PST -- and are currently 3/5 in TotGC-25 and working on Anub in TotGC-10. Optional 10-mans are available 2-3 nights a week. We recently completed Heroic Three Lights in the Darkness, and we have Rusted Protodrakes and Starcallers.

Our members skew a little older than average, and we have more female raiders than most guilds. We are a popular "retirement home" for hardcore ex-officers and guild leaders who are looking for a fun, relaxed, yet progressive environment. Most of us are very, very geeky (lawyers, engineers, programmers, editors). Guild chat is friendly and goofy, and not using texting shorthand is highly recommended. We get together in person once a year at "CatCon". This year it was in Vegas. Much hilarity ensued.

We are currently looking for a tank to join the core 25-man raid team. You should be:

* Butt-kicking!
* Have gear that is approximately ready TotGC.
* Understand the importance of spatial awareness and not standing in Bad Things.
* Generally able to attend 2-3 of our raids each week.
* Unflinching if a guildie pulls out a spreadsheet during a theorycraft debate.
* Familiar with the fact that "Ur" is an ancient Mesopotamian city and not a pronoun.

For more information on our guild, please visit our website at Machiavellis Cat - World of Warcraft Guild Uldum Realm (http://www.machiavelliscat.com).

Thanks, and happy killing!

Off Topic Warlock DPS issues!

Okay, so yeah, yeah, I know that Warlocks and pure DPS classes are not the main focus here, but people are helpful so I'll see if anyone has anything to offer. I feel silly posting this thread, but I'm scratching my head.

My Warlock's Armory (http://www.wowarmory.com/character-sheet.xml?r=Icecrown&n=Lalia)
Quick rundown of stats (without self buffs)
Spellpower: 2094
Crit: 23.49%
Haste: 359
Intellect: 1007
Spirit: 670

My gear is not the most fantastic gear out there, and is sort of patchy since this is an alt that I've been trying to get up there. However, in a 25 man raid with self buffs and plenty of raid buffs (I'm fairly certain just about everything I can get) + Flask of the Frost Wyrm, I only barely put out 5k dps and that's only because I was lucky enough to not get fire.

My Priority system is as such:
CoD
Immo
Conflag
Chaos Bolt
Incin

Because I don't use the Life Tap glyph (I have replenishment) I don't Life Tap until I get under 10k mana, then I usually Life Tap once, burn, and hit it again when I get low. This allows me to keep running my priority rotation with as little interruption as possible. I try to pop my cooldowns when I can, use a haste pot, and we had heroism on the fight.

Given my gear, I feel that I should be pulling about 6k, maybe a little higher, in a fight where I stand around. I don't know what I'm doing wrong and I'd love if someone could give me some tips to get me closer to the DPS I should be doing.

On a side note, on 10 man Gormok I only pulled out 2.4k dps. Granted I dont have the buffs that I did, and caster dps is tough on Gormok, but I feel like I should still be pulling out a much higher dps. On fights with lots of movement or target switching I find my DPS drops a lot more significantly than other DPS classes. I don't know if this is a Warlock issue (I have very little burst) or if I'm doing something wrong that I can improve upon. All I try to do is keep up my priorities and run out of fire, switch targets or do whatever I need to in the fight.

When using devastate on a target that already has 5x sunder armor applied, do you receive the threat from renewing the sunder armor debuff or only from the damage caused by devastate?

I know its a stupid question but it is something in discussion with friends and i was unable to find a definitive answer in search.

Ok, everyone knows that paladins make the best add tanks...at least that's what I keep getting told.

I, however, am not so great at it. Part of it is movement, camera spinning gives me vertigo. Part of it is my computer is old and clunky.
the use of online parsers has become almost a standard for most PvE guilds out there. the power of these utilies are vast and incredibly useful if you know what to look for.

the goal of this thread is to be a place where people can discuss what they/their guilds look for in their parses to get the most out of them. I plan on probably editing this post as people post things so there can be an organized list of things you can look for.

You can post anything regarding parses, from what you look for related to you, or seeing who was slacking in the raid.

so lets get started shall we?

One place I personally had a ton of fun analyzing parses what when my guild was learning heroic 25 twins. this is is because depending on your strat the damage you take can be directly linked to what you do (meaning you are accountable for nearly all damage you take).

In our strat we would have people who got light/dark touch'ed clear their debuffs as fast as possible. by looking at how many times they got the debuff and how much damage they took I was able to calculate a lot of things (sadly I can't link the original parse because it has expired :( sorry) :

With this info we were able to tell who was failing at clearing their debuffs and who wasn't and then act accordingly to who was in the group the next night

I also did some calculations involving how many wrong color orbs each person was taking damage from per attempt but it was directly correlated to how long the person was alive (longer life = more damage taken) so I won't post that data.

Other things I look at when analyzing parses for my self and other fury warriors is the ideal number of WW/BT uses compared to the actual number of uses in relation to their active DPS time. I also will check how many slams were used in relation to how many times bloodsurge proc'ed.

When analyzing my DPS I will check what buffs I had and what the uptime on each buff was.

A big thing that my guild looks at for our DPS is target switches. weather it be snobolds on beasts or portals on jaraxxus, we anaylze who who did the least ammount of damage to adds and why, we check their DPS time on the adds, compare their number of abilities used to other people of the same class that were in the raid, were there extenuating circumstances like getting legion flame, etc.

For fights like anub'arak it is my job to demo shout the adds when they get in range, and do my best to not let it fall (vindication screws with it because it overrides demo shout but only lasts 10 seconds and not 45). to do this I look at things like this:
World of Logs - Real Time Raid Analysis (http://www.worldoflogs.com/reports/3t4kwc9hgogwvvws/details/137/?s=7042&e=7537)

Now because the % uptime is calculated based on total combat time I look at the uptime of deadly poison because we have our rogues run out to TotT the burrowers when they start running in, so it is going to basically be the highest uptime possible.

From this I can see that when you combine the uptime of vindication with the uptime of demo shout, the burrowers have some form of AP reduction debuff on them nearly the entire time they were up, which is what I want.

There are tons of different ways of analyzing parses... if you think there is anything special that you/your guild does that you think might help other guilds out post it here. I will be editing this post to add some other things that my guild does when I remeber them.

World of Logs - Real Time Raid Analysis
From this I can see that when you combine the uptime of vindication with the uptime of demo shout, the burrowers have some form of AP reduction debuff on them nearly the entire time they were up, which is what I want.

There are tons of different ways of analyzing parses... if you think there is anything special that you/your guild does that you think might help other guilds out post it here. I will be editing this post to add some other things that my guild does when I remeber them.

Warrior Low DPS - Regemming needed??

I am not sure where to go from here. I have 32.23% ArP from gear and from what I've read that is when I should start gemming for more ArP. So I get +20 ArP gems and put them almost everywhere. My problem is that I am having a hard time averaging 3.5k DPS in 25 ToC. I am new to the game so the keybindings are still new to me (I mean they are not always automatic). When I hit the heroic training dummy I can rarely get over 3k dps. My rotation that I try to maintain is Rend > MS > Overpower when available > Execute when available and HS when i have enough rage. I use Bladestorm whenever it is not on CD and I use Cleave when attacking more than 1 target.

My question is my gear gemmed right and if not should i regem back to Str gems or do I just need to work on rotation more.

My Tank is 3/4 25ToC/10HToC geared (40k health, etc) (The World of Warcraft Armory (http://www.wowarmory.com/character-sheet.xml?r=Akama&n=Neglar)) and my role is generally a MT.

I was wondering what your opinions of the Glyph of Indomitability vs the Brewfest Trinkets/Black Heart (Which is normally what I use right now.. stupid Jugger trinket hasn't dropped for me yet :( )

I like the extra armor/dodge use.. but losing just about 2k health makes makes me want to cry lol..

What do you think? (This is for raid progression.. H25ToC, H10ToC, Icecrown when it comes out)

I just noticed a hacked account thread and thought I would share what was communicated to me through an un-related in game ticket.

If you launch the game and before you enter it asks for your info: You need to close the window and run an anti-virus scan. A GM included this info on the response to a ticket I submitted and had said that it is a malware that looks exactly like the WoW Launcher, but it asks for account info.

So for everyone who reads tankspot... spread the word. Account hacks aren't fun for anyone.

Druid Heal me.....

Help please somebody anybody,

I am new to this so if i am doing something wrong please tell me. This will most likely be long winded but i want to get as much advice as i can.

I am the only resto druid in the guild and relay the only raiding druid.

I am in a 10 man raiding guild. My healing gets the job done but its not quite enough. I feel as though i am not doing enough for my guild. And i get stressed out of my mind at times. i feel that i am not doing enough which in turn stresses the MT who is also the raid leader. who is always sitting beside me while raiding. which can be bad because we can wipe is he is stressing because i am stressed. I have only been playing for over a year and i started playing wow because my partners guild needed a reliable healer.

I am well geared i have my 4 set tear 9 and a non-set helm of equal rating. i have the moonshadow armguards(245), polished dragonslayer's signet (245 ring), band of the invoker(245 ring), boots of the pertified forest(219), belt of the winters solistice (232), blinding light (232), spark of hope (219) getting the talisman of resurgence, i also have the wail of the Val'kyr(245).

Now that you all know what gear i have, here are some stats for you 2383 is my bonus healing is at self buffed. mana regen is 738 non-combat and 414 in-combat. haste is at 449 that is down from my 700+ before i re-gemed to get more SP.

-Was that the right thing to do?
-what glyphs do i need?
-what gems are good?
-spellpower or intellect which one or is there a healthy mix?
-what is a good group make-up for me to be in for the guild to get the most out of it?

i think that all :) any help would be great.
