Want more Tanks? Recruit Healers.

Title says it all. Stop trying to recruit tanks by looking for tanks. Start looking for healers. Talk to them and find out which tanks they have the best relationship with. The reality is that often when you recruit one person from a guild you'll get their whole following so rather than getting a half-ass tank then getting apps from all his friends...

Get an amazing healer!

It's way easier for you to recruit a healer because you can simply do pug heroics. Eventually you'll land an incredibly healer that'll greatly appreciate your equally strong tanking ability. Once you've got an interested healer start inquiring about other tanks they've ran with. If they don't have any others then they're no good to you, but undoubtedly they've got a tank they love more than you (they'll say as much as, but make no mistake they like that tank more than you) that due to the close relationship between the two will happily tag along with your new healer.

The biggest reason why this works fantastic too is by getting a tank that a healer loves, odds are you aren't going to get a tank that doesn't know how to communicate and you shouldn't be getting a tank that's a jerk to your healing team and blames them for everything.

Anyway that's my little tip of the day.

our former MT was probably the best tank and one of the best players that I've ever seen. We found him by accident in a pug normal slabs run a month or two after BC came out last year. During the run I realized that the tank was pretty phenomenal, and told the fellow guildie in the run to watch how he was able to not only hold aggro but respond to loose adds/assassins, and how he executed the pulls. Even though he had mostly blue gear, it was evident that he was going to be worth the effort to gear up, so we did and he was. Until he quit playing the game a few months ago. But that's beside the point! You never know what diamonds in the rough you'll find, but you'll never find them if you don't put in a little work.
