Delivering Bad News
As a raid leader, officer, GM, etc basically anyone in a position of power it's inevitable that you'll have to deliver bad news. This is something that I touched on before in one of my previous posts on the old blogging platform, but it's not the whole story and the point here.
The rule:
Speak Bad News. Type Good News.
The written word is permanent. It makes a lasting impression. It can be revisited again and again and continue to have impact weeks, months and even years later.
Discussion between people on ventrilo aren't archived in such a way. (and for the love of god don't record them because yes I realize this is an option, but I assure you it's a terrible idea)
So back to the point.
Bad news.
1. Always say it
2. Type it as rarely as possible
3. Be discrete
Good News
1. Type it
2. Saying it is easily forgot
3. Be open
It's really that simple.
Speak Bad News. Type Good News.
Try it. You won't thank me immediately, but in the long term you'll find yourself much, much better off.

| | One thing that I found could have some really positive results was to let REALLY good news be announced by your subordinates, such as the class officers. |
