Sunwell 5 man initial reaction.

Boss are kinda cool.
I hate the trash.
- Unnecessarily close pulls
- mobs that throw crap at you and knock you down
- millions of casters
- shadowstep...
It's basically catered to bringing a rogue as far as I can tell after 1 run through.
Hopefully, this place will grow on me because at the moment I'm simply not a fan.

I hated it. Too many caster packs. I didn't use any CC, which is usually fine. But I would pull one, run around the corner to LOS them.. and then the stubborn dps were all going to town on an individual mob before I could even thunderclap and start tabbing through. Which is usually fine, if it's guild dps, the mobs die so fast it usually isn't a big deal, but it's annoying to not get initial aggro, and to keep aggro when you can't even freaking tab through them all because there's a damn caster a few feet away.
The instance is really pretty, though, and the bosses and cinematic were also great. I'd like it if I wasn't a tank, really.Posted 03-25-2008 at 11:32 PM by Ariedan

I liked it for the most part, but that is probably because I had two CCers with me. The trash was still a pain in the rear though. The bosses and Sunwell 25 man cinematic were definately the high parts. Some of the boss fights seemed a little bit recycled (first boss: Kalithresh from SV, second: Curator-esque, third: Moroes) but Kael'thas was brilliant. He's definately still a retard check, which I approve of. I'm not looking forward to healing it on my paladin though.Posted 03-26-2008 at 12:19 AM by Arrivan

Ghettodins can't heal Kael. I just came from a wipefest where our ghettodin kept killing us with his inability to group heal.
I would post a blog with my first thoughts, but this sums it all up: A high stam rogue strategically timing his Cloak of Shadows and kick could tank Magister's terrace as well as any of the tanks.
The first boss can be evasion tanked/burned down, the second boss w/ enchanted clefthoof, third boss gazes random targets so it's not like you need a tank anyway, and then kael himself only melees when you school lock him.
There's just no tank sensibility to this dungeon. Hopefully heroic mode is better.Posted 03-26-2008 at 02:26 AM by Alent

Kael in MT is the only BC boss that I know of that can still be killed if your tank dies after 50% excluding Shade (if you're not horridly overgeared, in which case why is your tank dying?). It's stupid really.Posted 03-26-2008 at 03:33 AM by Arrivan

I had fun. For the first time ever, I got to run something where people didn't know all the strats, where I had no idea what anything looked like, and I basically just winged the entire thing. Wiped on Kael a bunch due to not killing eggs and having our boomkin help the pally heal, but everything was a new experience. I Leeroy Jenkins'd the one room with the million mana worms, and that was fun. I still maintain that if tclap didn't have a limit on targets, I could have taken them.

Ran it twice on normal, and once on heroic. I had a lot of fun to be honest. I havn't been playing very much outside of raids for a long time, and last night was the first time I sat down with some of my best friends from game/RL and just hung out.
Heroic mode really isn't much different from normal. We had a few wipes in heroic simply because we couldn't take on 2 packs at once like we could in normal. And one on Kael because all the orbs decided to chase our Healer the entire time.Posted 03-26-2008 at 07:08 AM by Caulle

I did normal once, which isn't enough time to get a decent impression. We had a pally tank out of guild, so I just prot DPS'd while I fixed my mods. Seemed interesting enough, and the trash wasn't too long, but we didn't really need to know how the encounters worked to blow them up.Posted 03-26-2008 at 08:57 AM by Kavtor

I didnt have time to finish the normal 5 man. guild thought it was a good idea to go wipe in ssc for a while. From what i saw i liked it. We had a perfect group with a rogues sap hunter trap and warlock banish. I would spell reflect tank a caster and tank everything else normally. cant wait to try on heroic.Posted 03-26-2008 at 10:33 AM by hbombs

Spell reflect gets a lot of use in MgT. I initially hated the third boss because everything dumps aggro every few seconds, but when I started thinking about it more like 5v5 arena and put on my DPS gear it became more fun.Posted 03-26-2008 at 08:27 PM by Arrivan

I ran it as a healer on my druid and had a good time. We had a bear tank, 2 mages and a shadow priest. Not a guild allstar team but good enough. The 3rd boss gave us problems. Aggro issues cause the bear and I to essentialy 2 man 2 adds. I feel kinda like I cheesed Kael by popping barkskin/tranq and we just roled him like a cheap hooker.....which is kinda what he looks like now.
It was alot of fun. The mobs are interesting and fit what you would expect. I need the rep for trade skills on the druid so I don't think I'll be tanking it anytime soon but I can see where it would be a challenge to round up the casters and keep them in line.Posted 03-27-2008 at 11:09 AM by Horacio

Wow, Just Wow
Blew through it on regular, as we should have.
Went after heroic the next day. Did fine until the third boss with following group:
Prot Tank
Feral Drood
Holy Priest
Shadow Priest
Fire Mage
On the third boss had the following adds:
Shaman
Rogue
Hunter
Warrior
2 Repair Bots and 100g in repairs later, the prot warrior (me), the drood and the shadow priest roll to see who has to leave the group for a rogue to come in. Prior to this the mage has respecced into ice.
The drood loses roll and in comes the rogue. 3 wipes later the shadow priest says he'll go and we bring in a mage. Down goes the boss. (That fabulous tanking trinket drops - yay!)
I am very frustrated. There were 5 good, knowledgeable players in that first group. All were in a mix of tier 4, badge and a little tier 5 thrown in. We have often run together and are at a minimum competent. There should have been a way for us to do this encounter.
It was a great run for me though - 4 purples: the trinket, dps shoulders from first boss and ax and sword from last boss.
Just venting a little. Overall enjoyed the instance but feel a little sorry for non cc classes that don't heal or tank.Posted 03-28-2008 at 10:52 AM by Blackfriday
