I've been thinking lately on the Devastate change and just how important it was to have one less ability to worry about when tanking.

I simply don't think it could be an enjoyable experience for most people if we had too many abilities to use. The fact is that rotations in some way, shape or form must exist and hogging the global cooldown with yet another ability is tough. Which poses an interesting dilemma for level 80.

Are they going to add complexity or simplify?

I think they should choose the latter. An interesting concept I think they could use to free up global cooldowns is something along the lines of "Thundering Shout" for lack of a better term that basically refreshed Thunderclap and Demo Shout as well as maybe even renewed either Commanding or Battle Shout.

By doing this I think you really free things up for Warriors on the global cooldown which naturally improves threat. Now if we add to "Thundering Shout" some level of Threat we could effectively give Warriors a nice form of AOE Threat as well.

It definitely would dumb down a lot of the elements of how we play right now, but I think that's important in order to make room for a fresh, new tanking experience in the future at level 80.

I'm excited to see what the 51 point talents are going to be, but at the same time am not looking forward to having to add anything to my rotation. Unless it's, as you put it, to combine abilities.

Simplifying warrior rotations could also cause problems... Druid rotations are most definitely going to be more complex at 80 because we'll have one more skill to use... Would the line between prot warrior and bear be blurred by simplifying warrior skills?

the game isn't already simple enough, let's dumb it down more? and how would reducing the number of abilities we use allow blizzard to create a "fresh, new tanking experience?" i'm sorry, i just don't agree.

I seem to recall Tigole saying somewhere that simplifying tanking in general was going to happen come wotlk and that the mechanics behind alot of were going to go through a total reworking.

The best way to improve warriors tank should be Improved Revenge talant change. Imho it should cause critical stirke for every point spend. For example 1/2/3 should be like 25/50/75% critical strike

I like the complexity of warrior tanking. One or two button tanking would be like playing a shadow priest. Rotations, rage maximization, mad keyboard skills and the frenzy of button pounding to max out your aggro is a blast. Changing stances on the fly is one of the things that is a challenge (remembering to change back to def lol) and too much fun.

Bring on new talents and new buttons!

    PS really enjoy your posts!

Honestly, I agree with blackfriday, in as far as I like the currently complexity of warrior tanking, and would like to see some new abilities instead of combinations of the old ones.

If they make combination abilities, my only reaction'll be "so what? I could tank fine before them." Making it easier just inspires laziness in tanking, which is not a good thing, imo. Just like healers, tanks should be on top of their game all the time. They should race to raise their aggro in a frenzy of button mashing that the rage mechanic agrees all too well with. Honestly, I'd feel guilty even using the rage mechanic if I didn't go as crazy as it implies.

Oh I agree Kelthrak, but I think that they need to combine some old abilities to make it so they can add some more new abilities to focus on. I mean the last thing we want is to have to waste global cooldowns on TC, Demo and a Shout when we could be using new ability X and Y.

Basically, I like the current complexity and would like to see old abilities combined so that the same level of complexity is maintained when new abilities arrive.

Good point. A couple combination abilities would also help us balance our rage with the new stuff, too.

I've got a 5 button mouse and crap macro'd to save space and I still have to click stuff on the side since my fingers don't comfortable reach past `-6 (and thier shift-ed dopplegangers).

New abilities would make me have to get finger extensions or something.

new 51 pts talent in prot

Imp Shield Slam : Allow your Shield Slam to hit 2 more target but those targets only receive 50% dmg and don't have any buff dispelled. Shield Slam dmg is also increased by 33% of the warrior attack power.
