I'm fairly certain I speak for the collective here when I say that most guilds have encountered 1 of 2 "problems":

1) A bunch of new melee DPS in the form of Death Knights, but also Feral Druids and Ret Paladins
2) A bunch of new tanks in the form of Death Knights, but also Paladins and Druids

...and this is pretty natural. A new expansion always seems to lead to your healers, ranged dps and tanks looking to take on less responsibility in the form of melee dps or your healers, ranged dps and melee looking to take on more responsibility in the form of tanking.

Couple that with the fact that a new expansion generally leads to people quitting or changing their playtimes and you're left with a whole lotta empty slots in the ranged and healing departments.

What can you do?

Recruit.

It's not rocket science. Nothing has changed. Spots open up. You open the doors and fill them. Yes, I get that you're comfortable with this team by now and you can't imagine anyone jumping into your tight knit guild after slugging through all of TBC's content, but that's what you've got to do.

So, figure out what you've got, what you want and what you need and recruit accordingly.

Recruiting has always been the most important aspect of raiding. If you've got the right people, everything else gets easier.
Amateurs talk tactics, but professionals talk logistics.

Here's to hoping my recruit officers actually start showing up though... :P

I think we were incredibly lucky going into LK. The main tank corps was myself and two ferals. One of the Ferals rolled a prot pally, and the other stayed. So, it's the same group of people, and we work really well together. It was bumpy for us at the start of TBC, but I'm really proud of what the 3 of us have evolved into. None of our healers rolled DK's, or melee/ranged DPS either.

Where we lost people was a long time ago when the raid started to crumble under Sunwell stress. Some people left the guild never to return.

Recruiting also seems to be exceptionally difficult right now. There are 10 guilds fully clearing Naxx and killing KT. There's almost nothing to separate the guilds on the server except achievements, but even that isn't enough right now to entice others to join us. We don't really have an edge right now. This will change when Ulduar comes out with new content and we pull ahead of the server again as per usual.

well the problem we seem to be having in our guild as far as 25mans is the idiot>good player ratio on our server especially b/c our server is low pop (darrowmere) and Afterlife stealing ( well maybe not stealing but ppl dropping our guild for even a *chance* to raid w/ them) a lot of our good players *shakes fist*
so basically recruiting is a tough thing to go through right now since most of the ppl who are dinging 80 nowadays arent the most dedicated of players : |
