...and kinda feel like a loot whore. Illidan dropped his chest and helm on the first kill and I snagged them both. It was 3x Warrior chest and I knew my fellow Warrior off-tank was going to get a chest, but nonetheless... feelin' the bad vibes.

Any other Raid Leaders get the bad vibes anytime they get gross amounts of loot?

On a happier note though, even though it's somewhat tainted by the ease that is patch 3.0, I feel oddly complete with my BC raiding experience by finally completing Black Temple. It was after all my goal to kill Illidan this expansion. (well my previous goal was Kael... but that's done a while ago)

So I guess, it's time for a new goal.

New Goal
: 4 pieces of T6 that I'll actually use. Go Go! Legs and Bracers!

I had an incident recently that might shed some light onto the subject of feeling like a "loot whore".

After playing a healing priest for the better part of 9 months with my guild, we had a bit of a falling out, thus landing me as partial GM and a handful of loyalist.

We teamed up with another guild to form a dedicated "Raid Team". At first, it was working smoothly and it seemed as though the idea of a cross guild team would work out.

My tank (Suramar: Deathleaper) and I (Suramar: Banx) were well past Kara, but we needed the DPS filler. So instead of going to high end guilds to do 25 mans, we decided to bring up the other guild's toons and go from there.

Then our Tankadin OT began to have RL and connection issues and had to stop attending. All of a sudden we're sitting on a 9 man team with a single tank. Then it occured to me, "hey Banx, don't you have a druid sitting around somewhere collecting dust?" And magically Kitsunekai came into play.

Within one weekend we took her from sitting on low lvl 60 green gear to comparable tanking gear for KZ.

So, getting to my point, the T4 helm drops from Prince for the War/Druid/Priest, a piece that has only dropped for my tank and myself three times for all of the times we've been. No one said anything, I was incredibly excited for my new tank. I needed on it without anyone else saying anything about it.

About 5 minutes later, our fury war from the other guild begins his rant about how unfair it was that I got the piece due to the fact that Kit is my "alt" and should have secondary roll options for loot. He, on the other hand, was in a better piece of merciless. His point was that he wanted his T4 for show, rather than efficiency. Needless to say, this turned into a huge blowout between the guilds and we no longer raid together.

Final word: When it comes to loot that is sharable, the loot, as long as it's an upgrade, always ALWAYS goes Tanks-Healers-DPS. If your tank can't take the hits, your healers won't be able to keep up and the raid wipes. Then if the tanks can take the hits but the healers can't keep them up, then the raid wipes. If the DPS takes a minute longer to kill the boss.... who cares?

This is also coming from a rogue main from back when DKP ruled the loot world in 6 hours of MC to just down 2 bosses.

If my tank gets 10 pieces on a run and no one else gets anything, as long as they're upgrades, then the raid as a whole will benefit, and that's all that matters. It's all about the survival of the raid before anything else. And until people understand this concept, you'll always have those like the fury warrior wanting his T4 for vanity rather than functionality and rationality.

People will always feel that loot is being done unfairly, no matter how fair it is. The MT, which I assume is you, should always be prioritized for loot no matter what type of loot system you are using. The helm and chest off of Illidan are must haves for tanking as they supply a substantial boost. Grats on Illidan BTW.

Gratz vene... don't lie though if the shield helm and chest dropped you would have taken all three!

Vene we were in the same position. I am very pleased and content having cleared BT. It wasn't the patch that made our illidan kill possible.. we just ran out of time to do it before the patch. What did suck was that having only pulled illidan twice pre patch it only took 3 pulls after to down him. I would have atleast liked come frustration in order to make the kill feel a bit better.

btw gratz on helm. I got my chest now i need 1 more pc of t6 for my 4 set. hoping for legs this reset. gogo 1 night BT clear ?

It means you're a decent, fair minded person and I often react the same way in similar situations. That said, you didn't do anything wrong. You just hold yourself to a higher standard where the raid's reward and enjoyment is part of your reward.

Sunday night I ran Kara for the 423rd time and took both Spiteblade and Gorehowl. No one else wanted them so it didn't really matter but I still feeel guilty. I always have about things like that and I probably always will.

I have been plagued with bad conscience since Sunday, because I took two items from the timed chests in ZA. I hope there are no bad feelings, but it feels that the other warrior passed because I did massive QQ about being outrolled by her last time. It's not such a great feeling.

@Sandmann: Ya, I feel that the legs with 4 piece will be greater than the Sunguard without 4 piece. My other pieces will be shoulders, chest and bracers.

@hbombs: I'd probably have taken the shield and chest and passed the helm to my offtank if that happened

As to killing him, I feel we simply ran out of time too. We killed Vashj, Kael and Archimonde in a timely fashion without outgearing them. Illidan wouldn't have been any different.

I should note that no one actually complained, I just felt a bit of a bad vibe. I know I earned it especially since my OT had stopped raiding a month before 3.0 and only recently came back. Part of me wishes I would have passed a chest onto the enhancement shaman in the raid though. (hopefully, he can get it next week)

Anyway... just one of those moods. Thanks for the high fives guys and gals

@ Banx "The MT, which I assume is you, should always be prioritized for loot no matter what type of loot system you are using"

Nope. Primary tanks, of which any 25 man guild should have a few, should try to split the loot fairly reasonably. There are lots of multi tank encounters, or days when your MT can't play. Or, if your MT, with all the loot, transfers, or quits playing, then you've suddenly become vastly under geared at a primary position. More than a few guilds have died after defaulting a lot of loot to a MT who then vanished.

On topic though, I've definately been feeling that vibe lately. Our tank core has been pretty strong, and we've tried to spread around the tank duties. But that leaves me sitting out rather often, which while I think is fair (and that I should be sitting out even more than I do to be fair) I would have to say that our raids are better when I'm involved.

Consequently, I've been trying to build up my DPS set so I can still contribute to the leading, focus, and morale of the raid with out squeezing out our other tanks. It's been a tough balance trying to choose between helping to gear out new recruits, or regular players with picking up more loot for myself, so that I can contribute.

The biggest thing is to just be generally honest and share your toys. If you pass along a reasonable number of items, you'll probably be forgiven for splurging on occasion, especially if you let other tanks splurge once and a while.

I got two chest pieces on our last Illidan kill for offspecs. They were going to be sharded otherwise, but I did feel kinda guilty.

Common sense instead of defaulting loot useable by tanks(tokens) to tanks.

I understand a geared MT is the cornerstone of any raid but don't forget that tokens are shared and classes cen get the shaft if you're moving to new content and somehow completely missed out on most tokens because everything was defaulted to the tanks.

    (our restodruids had that issue)

Take for instance T4 glove token, by now it's a non issue, but still taking if you have gauntlets of the maiden........

I've never been a proponent of the MT priority thing though I did practice it for a while. The game has certainly changed since then and for much of my career I've been fortunate to play with a solid friend as my 'co-tank'. I usually let him be the MT and I generally pass to him because I know I'll get mine. He and I get along well and work together well, so loot is never an issue. He'll never let me forget getting my second binding as a fill in on an offnight and I'll always remind him that I passed him the shield off Chromie and then he took a month off to play Xbox. Jerkface.

I dunno, i've been glad to get farther into BT... but we've taken some members of another guild to fill our final raid spots, because of this we're rolling on loot instead of using DKP. So who wins the first pair of t6 shoulders?? A warrior brand new to our guild :-/

Might not care but he's so new to this content that he asked this on Hyjal: "So the waves just keep coming, we don't get a break at all??" - Did he seriously win the shoulders over me and several others that have been around a while? Now if he wins the helm... sigh, i've had this t4 helm forever and I want it gone! lol

Well I'm the raidleader and maintank. My guild knows that I know what I'm doing, so if I need one item I take it. If the boss drops 5 items and I need them all, I just loot them. It's not a bad feeling, you will lose it with some time Just loot whatever is useful for you and whatever lets you do your job better.

I don't know why, exactly, but I've gotten more loot from my guild than any member, but without taking loot than anyone else could reasonably use, with 1 exception: Teron's gloves. I did however, actually roll for them against the GM/MT. I wasn't really expecting to have a chance, and I feel that letting me roll against him was a real show of character on his part.

That said, I have traded any and all loot rights until Naxxramas for first dibs on Illidan's Shield when it drops. I literally will get no loot, even if it goes to offspecs before me, just because I want that cheese-grater on my back with every fiber of my soul.

I had an lolretnoob raider (enh, officer too) who wanted to 'talk' to me about loot while our guild was making it's way through SSC/TK months ago. I was like (me being physical dps lead)...well if it's an upgrade then I expect any class who can use it to bid on it. I don't think it was the answer he wanted, his expectation was more...if this drops I want dibs.

    Nah...Keza don't play that way.

Grats dude. I'm assuming RoS is a joke now with 3.0, but did you ever get to try using seethe to fix the aggro problem?

RoS is still annoying if you pull him without killing all the ghosts or in phase 2. You can pretty much use a 2nd tank though in case the first one gets shocked.
