Talking about anything other than WotLK?
Posted 07-21-2008 at 09:47 AM by veneretio
Is it worth it?
That's what I'm faced with. I have a policy for my blog at TankingTips and that's that I don't ever talk about Patch notes until they are live. By extension I won't be talking about WotLK until it's live either.
So, I guess what I'm saying here, is I sure hope it's still worth talking about stuff other than WotLK. I've stuck to my guns up until this point and it's done me well enough so far. With the expansion likely still many months away, I have to wonder am I bias?
Do I care about still playing the game we have now because I truly care or do I care because I have to. Because otherwise why am I writing right now?
TankingTips will never be a mmo-champion for warriors. It's just a niche I can't keep up with. It'll never be a lot of things. It'll never be a complete look at Warriors. It won't be because the reality is, I just don't think that's possible. There's always another angle. There's always another topic to write about. Concepts build on concepts. The very reason why the site can exist is also the very reason it can never truly succeed.
So, what am I getting at?
Nothing really. I'm writing. It's good for the soul. At some point in time you wake up and you realize that it's okay not to have anything really to talk about. It's okay to just write what you are thinking and let your thoughts speak for themselves.

| | I think the biggest danger in writing about the new content is it's still 90% speculation. The ridiculous flurry kicked up by the Salvation change is a good example. There's still so much out there that we don't know, or simply don't have access to, so trying to write intelligently on many subjects is tough. I just look over dozens of speculation posts about how class x or ability y is completely terrible and laugh. |

| | Stick to your guns, there are plenty of educational topics for folks out there and much to learn. And, there are plenty of other venues to discuss WotLK and keep your personal blog pure and on topic. |

| | Definitely, Vene. Keep writing about the current game. There's so much to explore. I look forward to new updates on your site, even if they turn out to be irrelevant for me (like the Hyjal stuff). And do more podcasts! The podcasts rock. |

| | I like that the posts on your site are grounded in facts and testing. If you want more content I'd say do more of your general tanking posts that aren't mechanics related if you run out of new mechanics or insights to cover. I like the posts like how does my tanking core run and work together, how does the guild operate, how do the tanks/healers/rl interact etc. It's a good insight for those of us in smaller less progressed guilds to see how things are done. Stuff like the what marks you use post is good insight for any tank. Leave the beta for mmochampion, until we have testing everything about the beta is worthless other then to oo and aah for what we think people might be getting. Fun to read but not worthy of tankingtips.com |

| | The reason TankSpot is so driven towards it is because we're responding to what the majority of the community is looking for at this moment -- however, if we're covering it, if mmo-champion is covering it, if ten other websites are covering it, where are people going to go for insightful tanking posts? (hint: TankingTips) As a blogger, you have the privilege of creating your own subject and your own direction. |

| | I'm content to wait too. It's like anticipating opening presents on Christmas. I can't wait...but I am waiting. Keza |
