Whats with some people these days?

So on Saturday I pugged a 25man naxx with a couple guildies. I was tanking and the two guildies were dps. So the raid leader decides to hit up Construct quarter first. In his opinion its easier to do the harder wings first when everyone is awake and concentrated. We one shot patchwerk. Beat the timer pretty easily things are looking pretty good. Grobb gave us some trouble mainly just people not running away to drop their poison clouds. We down grobb on the third attempt. One hunter was having lag issues and not running out of the raid when he got the poison. We had him stand on the ramp running up and down if he got the poison. Pretty funny to watch actually.
Moving along we get to gluth and hit a brick wall. Wiped three times and a couple people leave. Fingers are getting pointed I try to tell them its nobodies fault. The dps just aren't killing the zombies quick enough. He ate 6 or 7 the first attempt. Raid leader decides to hit up the spider wing. Fine by me. We clear the spider wing with no problems. Got the achievement on grand widow.
Now we go to the plague wing. Noth goes down easily. The plate tanking gloves drop. Slight upgrade over mine. I won the roll but I see that the prot pally who is OTing is wearing blues. So I pass em to him immdiatly. I didn't even get a thanks
. Heigan...well I need some dancing lessons all I can say
. Heigan gets 10maned from 30%. We move onto loatheb and the warrior T7.5 shoulders don't drop
. A guildie of mine rolls for his warlocks T7.5. Now another warlock rolls also saying its a slight upgrade of spell power..I r dumb when it comes to casters. My guildies wearing some quest blues. Of course the other warlock wins the roll. My guildie links his current shoulders and the warlock says " lol those are awful you need something better." Grrr I can understand wanting to roll on something that upgrades your gear but something that increases your spellpower by 5..come on seriously. By all means the warlock wasn't required to pass. But I passed on something for his guild mate earlier. "Well now that has nothing to do with anything" some of you might think. I believe that what goes around comes around.
So if you were in that situation would you pass or take the shoulders?

"So if you were in that situation would you pass or take the shoulders?"
Not going to like this answer: I tend to strike while the iron is hot. But understand, I only play two days a week, so when I see gear, I may not see it again. Also, all's fair in pugs. Is it a cool thing to do? Nope, but that other guys time is just as valuable as your friends' is.Posted 02-02-2009 at 07:10 PM by thedrawrf

Pass
I've been doing it since pugging MC on my shammy.
I'll almost always pass to someone else if it's a bigger upgrade, providing they havn't already gotten one or two upgrades yet.
I wont completely gear someone in one run, but I'll do my best to bring them up to my gear level if I outgear them.
edited to say: even in pugs. I can always go back. It might suck though if it doesn't drop for a couple months

I guess this is why I will almost always draw the line when it comes to pugging raids. Within a guild, especially with smart recruiting, it is rare to run into this kind of situation. You pass on loot because you trust your buddy needs it more and you get the whole cooperative progress thing working.
Outside of my happy guild environment, all bets are off and Thedrawrf is completely right. The people you pug that raid with don't have or need to have that sense of cooperation because that particular raid may never be assembled again. He doesn't have to pass those shoulders to a lesser geared member because he may never need to rely on that other person's DPS.
So would I roll on the shoulders in a pug raid? Definitely, because it means I'm going back to my guild immensely improved, and when that token drops again it means I'm not taking it from one of my guild members who could use it. I don't pug outside of VoA though, so I guess it's a moot point. I would never, ever, take a slight upgrade over a true upgrade during any guild event.Posted 02-03-2009 at 12:00 AM by Corisa

I would definitely roll. The guy with blue shoulders might be unlucky to be still stuck with them, but he might as well be freeloader, who never bothered to go Naxx 10 and instead chosen to go Naxx 25 in blues, hoping for upgrades. In guildrun I would know, and I would adjust - pass to the unlucky guy, don't pass to the lazy guy. In a PUG I won't know, so I will just assume what is better for me.Posted 02-03-2009 at 12:22 AM by Hengist

I'm glad to see that people are stating their own positions not agreeing with me. Its why I post to see if I'm in the right or wrong. That's why I love blogging. On a side note I forgot to mention that the pally tank I passed the gloves to is in the same guild that the warlock that won the T7.5 shoulders is in. I'm also someone that only has three possible days to raid weekly so I understand your point of view on this TheDwarf.Posted 02-03-2009 at 07:10 PM by Vapo

Hengist- I think it a bit arrogant to assume someone is lazy and that is the reason for their lack of gear. I took 3 months off WoW due to a medical condition.. thus my lacking Naxx10 pieces that I needed. However, in a pug you wouldnt necessarily know that.. It also may be that his guild raids at at time he is unable to attend. There are a lot of reasons why you see so many 80s pugging raids in blue gear- Sure some of it is freeloaders, it would be niave of me to think that it isn't possible. Since I started playing WoW my dice have been AWEFUL... Since Kara days all the gear I got was defaulted to me because I couldnt roll above a 15 to save my life! Now in Naxx and Ulduar I'm having the same problem.. 3 years of playing WoW and 3 years of bad dice. I've come to accept it even if it is a pain in the tail for me. Whenever someone passes on a sidegrade to them to help me out I'm ever appreciative and usually will ad someone like that on my FL out of respect. If I ever need someone to fill a slot, I know I can look at these people and know they aren't loot whores.
To the OP- In that situation if you weren't the RL you couldn't exactly set the Loot Rules... IMO the raid leader might have better helped the raid out by setting some sort of precedent at the beginning of the raid. You're actions were admirable but not the norm in most PuG raids. Its a little disturbing to see people scoff at other peoples gear when the item in question is only a slight upgrade or even side grade when it could have been a huge upgrade for someone else. There isn't much you can do about it except expresss your discontent or accept that in pugs Loot goes where it will and there is nothing that can be done about it except quit... At which point you look like the asshat and greedy. Just my 2C.Posted 06-14-2009 at 09:58 PM by Valkyrs
