What's world pvp?

Posted 06-12-2008 at 02:18 AM by Ukyo
Lately i've been lurking around outlands (epic flying mount ftw) killing people and using my shiny new weapon. And i also have been looking for a decent Warrior PvP vid. No luck though, except for this one:

Adema Warrior

Granted, it's a little old, but watching it and watching some of the responses on the video, i've been wondering... What's world pvp really like then?

I know, world pvp is when you kill people around the world (Azeroth/Outlands). But most people tend to think that you need to have like a coordinated fight with equally geared people so it counts as a World PvP Fight.

Looking back on time, back to the Laintime vids, most of his opponents are crappy geared. And it's not until the last vid he makes that decent geared people appear. Unless you're in a quick progressing server, you won't be having world pvp with equally geared people. You'll outgear most of the people you run into.

Looking at another example, Kenion's Eviscerape 1, most of his opponents were T3 geared, and that reflects on the server's progression. So basically, unless you're in a server that's been taking a lot of gear from BT/MH (which by this point should be a standard), you won't meet the standards of World PvP, according to the internetz people.

Now, everyone here knows that world pvp is basically "Red = Dead", but... why does people really worry about gear/skill when it comes to world pvp. What makes them think that from 10 million people that play this game, we all play the same way as Laintime, or Kenion, and have access to the same amount of gear as they did.

But more important... what's World PvP for you?

World pvp to me is basically as you said killing outside of BGs. On my server we make a big deal of it. There are pve guilds like my own and we have many pvp guilds.

Those pvp guilds inform the pve guilds about a city raid they are throwing together. pve guilds and pvp guilds join up and go destroy all the alliance cities (killing all the kings/leaders of every city) We have gone from one city at a time with 2 raids groups. Other times we have had 6 full raid groups attack all major alliance cities at once.

anyway with the intoduction of pvp gear you have less of an unequal gear issue. Someone who has never raided a day in his life can have an advantage over someone in full t6.

My favorite past time is logging on my boys full pvp geared hunter and ganking on the isle im terrible at pvp and my warrior has like 120 resilience compared to the hunters 392

For me, world PVP used to be just paying attention and fending off attackers, or occasionally leaving them corpses.

More often than not, World PVP has become "Red =dead, the lower the level the better" and you have 70s corpse camping level 10's.

I would say World PVP really should be "an approximate level of random competition", because a chance meeting between two relatively equal level people who decide they both want the same quest or mining or whatever kind of node on the ground can be the most exciting thing in the world. It's even more powerful on FFA PVP servers (Note: Wow doesn't have these because it's client base is too immature to make it work) where you have your own damn reputation to consider before you start killing people.

world pvp is world pvp. you kill anything that's red convenient or inconvenient. however if you make a world pvp video then it has to be more than ganking undergeared people.. you know it has to be worth more than your average world pvp.
