Managing Boredom

So, my new guild is in an interesting position.
Some members are getting bored of the content.
I'm sure if I was here when they were progressing through Hyjal/BT, I might be in a similar boat. What drives my desire to progress is the fact that I simply get bored of the older instances. I was getting bored of SSC and TK when I left my prior guild, after doing it for several months. It showed in my play.
So, now we're at a point where we can clear Hyjal/BT in 2 nights. This guild has been doing this since before I joined at the start of the new year. We still need more T6, and we're experimenting with a few off-specs to see how they affect our DPS and group synergy. We've had a survival hunter in the raid (with great success), and we've had a retadin, who has done pretty well so far.
There were some ideas being tossed around, like trying to set certain goals (like X DPS on Gorefiend, actually clear hyjal/BT in 2 nights, etc), and giving bonus DKP for achieving them. Some ideas I thought were pretty bad, like randomly inviting an alt to the raid. Checking gear, and seeing if said person can play their alt well in a raid setting sounds like more trouble than it's worth.
As I've never been in this position before, I'm interested in seeing what they'll do.
For those that are in this position, what are you doing to keep your raid interested in going to Hyjal/BT and performing their best week in and week out?

| | For us, getting out of T5 content and into T6 made a huge difference. We struggled on virtually no bosses in T6 content save Archimonde. I think we killed the first 8 from BT/Hyjal in 2 weeks? Currently, we're not doing a lot to keep the raid interesting. I've ramped up the speed of the pulls a bit in BT to keep everyone on their toes, which is really more to try and get our clears down to 2 nights instead of 2 plus Archimonde. Personally, I keep things intereting by pushing myself. I'm pushing my threat harder than ever now on bosses. Even trash, just trying to keep it all organizd, call stuff out if something goes wrong etc. |

| | We're also ramping up the speed of the pulls. I'll keep myself interested for a while, tweaking things, trying to change things up. We're even changing our specs slightly for more rage return/threat... since we're in farm mode and in most cases we can easily kill these bosses. I'm hoping we can do more on the PTR, but I have no idea what's going to happen... sunwell has been down more than its been up. That, and some people are like "we dont want to go on the PTR!" |

| | I copied myself over, but havn't even logged on once yet I don't think. We've never really pushed much PTR testing. I had a beta key for TBC, and I didn't even really push that much. I think I got to 63 and just didn't log on anymore. But even if i tried to push the PTR, I think I'd have a lot of people going "We don't want to go on the PTR!" as well. XD |
