Nightfall nerfed

Posted 05-13-2008 at 09:07 AM by Timetheos
Patch 2.4.2: "[item]Nightfall[/item] now has a chance to fail on targets over level 60."

Damn. I still used Nightfall regularly when I wasn't tanking any given encounter. I always dreamed of some theoretical raid consisting entirely of casters and Nightfallers. It was a tiny piece of the old world that I was able to cling onto, comfortable that it was universally useful and not bound by level; the only thing it scales with is raid size.

Why would Blizzard do this? I haven't seen very many people at all with the axe; actually, I think mine is the only one I've seen on my server. It's barely ever mentioned. I haven't been online in a while, so I'm quite sure it isn't my fault. Perhaps it would make Kil'Jaeden too easy? Or maybe it's somehow conflicting with some new mechanic to be introduced in WotLK? In any case, it's a heavy blow to me.

They nerfed it because the top tier guilds were using it to game the brutallus fight (IMHO).

I doubt that brutallus was the reason...ive not come accros a wws with anyone thats not a tank doing less than 600dps...

My reasoning is - adding 15% to 8 casters doing 2,000+ dps means the "tank" with nightfall was responsible for about 2400 dps - with a level 60 weapon

Well i dont know if the buff was up 100% of the time, but its going to be a significant number. A number I dont think Blizz was expecting. They HATE lvl 60 weapons messing with their level 70 tuning.

The buff worked out to being up ~25% of the time.

When I get a chance I'll try to do some experimenting with different lvls of mobs, to see the extent of the damage.

They'll probably go after [item]Black Amnesty[/item] or [item]Felstriker[/item] next, just for the hell of it. Ooh, non-scaling effect. Scary.

What really annoys me about what they did to Nightfall is that it isn't nearly as effective now as it was at 60, because the raids are so much smaller! If it was a specific encounter that caused this problem, I would have much preferred they take another look at the encounter.

Heaven forbid they just make Brutallus immune to the nightfall effect.
