S&B vs. Anubite HoTs. And Skeram.

I like to solo difficult stuff using a full hit table and high BV. Some fights shine here, and some (namely any with substantial magic damage) don't. In particular, I used to kill Arlokk every 3 days (until the loot dried up and the path to exalted seemed too long to bother), and Garr every week (which I'll continue to do until I get my bindings, and perhaps the recipes I don't have yet).
Oh yeah, and back in the old days (pre-3.0) I could take on the Infectious Skitterers in Naxx rather easily :P
AQ40 has always held a special place in my heart. The trash leading up to the first boss is soloable with sufficient BV, since all their messy abilities only annoy casters. There is one exception: for the first time today, I had an Anubite (can't remember their real name) with a HoT. All the Anubites have special abilities, more when others in their pull are killed, and they range from a knockback to an occasional shadow spell, to spell reflects and mana burns.
Today was the first time I'd come across the HoT though (at least, by myself, when I need to actually pay attention to their buffs). This put a damper on today's run because I couldn't out-dps the heal. I had rather high BV (~900, plus one +200 BV trinket), and my dps was around 800, according to Recount. SB and trinket uses, as well as S&B procs and Damage Shield, all make substantial contributions to my dps. However, this was nowhere near enough to counter the 1584hps this one mob was taking.
The obvious solution is to drag someone along with me, which I have done frequently to farm mounts for them. It's a gamble though (which buffs the mobs will have), and I'm not going to annoy anyone on the off chance they'll be able to kill a mob that I can't.
The other thing I've wanted to try (since this morning) is solo the first boss. As is to be expected from a t2.5 40-man boss, it isn't a clean fight. However most of his damage is melee, his clones do melee, and all extra effects seem to be nullifiable by a lack of ranged players, and a lack of other players in general. It'd be nice if I could get a weekly shot at the breastplate plans and quest Armament, plus a bit of Brood rep. More of an e-peen thing than anything though.

| | Ah, but what if there was no arcane explosion (not enough people), and no earth shock (always in melee range)? And if MC had no effect on anything whatsoever, if it even happened against one target? I used to (6-12 months ago) run a hell of a lot of Scholo and Strat, by myself or with a friend. When I'm by myself, a lot of boss abilities just don't happen, and many mechanics change or have no effect. Ras doesn't freeze or fear. Baroness doesn't MC. If Gandling ports you, you don't need to kill the adds (not that they're an issue anyway) because he simply follows you into the room. I've wiped on Garr with large raids of people. I kill him every week by myself. Regarding Skeram, I really don't know if he's soloable. I'd put my money on not - there'll be a curveball in there somewhere. But I have to try! |

| | Don't you just lose the fight as soon as you get MCed? |

| | SS: Yes, repeatedly, and to no avail. MC: I don't know. |

| | I did Jamal last night for achievements, and if it's anything like that the Boss resets [Full Health] as soon as you get MC'd. |

| | Skerim MC's the person in closest proximity so my guess is that it will in fact MC you & reset. By all means, definetly give it a shot but I'm thinking its gonna be a reset type deal. Mobs that lose their MC abilities when solo'd are the ones that MC the person second in aggro or pick a random person. Good luck! Let us know how it goes! |

| | Ah, I've met that HoT mob on my mage (pre 3.0 in less good gear). The prot pally and I couldn't kill it, at least for the several minutes it took the rest of the raid to assemble. |
