Moar PVP

I don’t mind swinging gigantic swords at people!
It turns out, while Mortal Strike’s sustained DPS output is worse than what I could do as a protection warrior dual wielding, you can lay down a shitload of burst damage, own a field with enhanced mobility, and crush your opponents ability to escape with hamstring and piercing howl. My early foray in to PVP as a hard core tank is going well. I can gib! Even with my somewhat survival focused spec, I can still pump out the damage. Man I tell ya when I get some lucky Despair and Sword Spec procs, things die. I mean they die. Did I mention, that the things I hit - they die? As a warrior who is only used to dual wielding in arenas, I can tell you that it is nice to make things that you hit die. Big numbers > small numbers.
However, I’m not getting the finer points of things yet. I don’t think I’ve cooly intercepted a priest casting a big heal, pummeled a paladin’s heal, or spell reflected a mage’s pyroblast yet. Sure, if I’m already beating a caster and I notice they are healing, I probably work in the pummel - but that’s not the same thing as seeing the priest on the other side of the fray begin to cast out of the corner of your eye, tab targetting, stance dancing and intercepting. It’s just not as impressive.
I have noticed that after two weeks of BG’s and Arena, my reaction times are faster. I wanted to overpower every boss dodge in Heroic vaults last night, even though I was tanking (respecced to help out a guildie). I spell reflected a few fears that I might not have caught a month ago. Sure, my meat memory is screwed up and I shield blocked (5) when I meant to revenge (4) over and over, but all in all I have to say that PVP’ing on Thug has made me a better tank, strangely. I recommend any pve hard core type try out a serious effort at PVP every now and again. Think of it as vacation, or a training course. You don’t do your day job 52 weeks of the year, you can surely take a week off of raiding to pvp.
I think you’ll find it worthwhile!

| | I've been thinking the same thing myself for a long while. If you want to improve your game, you have to crawl out of your comfort zone and expose yourself to unpredictable situations - PVP is one, PUGs are another. ...And there really is a visceral satisfaction to pwning someone while thinking to yourself "I'M PROT SPEC LOLOLOL" |
