I think I've figured it out.

For a long time now, a few of our priests would get discouraged when they'd check out the WWS after a raid. "The trees are so OP lol, why am I a priest again?" one or two were even rolling druids. As a tank, I've never really known why but always felt the best situation was a holy priest winding up a 20k gheal, a tree dropping hots on me like a warm cozy sweater while the shaman's earth shield is spinning and chain heal is topping everybody up at once.
Too much of one thing just feels like mono-culture to me. So it was always really bothersome when my best friend holy priest would IM me after a raid "why do I bother? Bliz hates priests - the trees are totally pushing numbers way bigger than I ever could."
I've figured out the trick. After I post WWS, I find the max gheal a holy priest dropped in the raid, and link that right after the WWS URL: "holy cow, 21k gheal! priests are OP!"
I don't want to say it fixes everything, and I can't say I understand everything about the priest class, or say with a certainty that priests aren't underpowered... but ... try it sometime.
WWS always makes the trees and shaman look good - especially now that priests lost the ability to spam circle of healing. Even the smartest most dedicated holy priest needs a bump every now and again after seeing the wws/recount onslaught every night.
So bump your holy priests ego: link a max gheal today.

I don't know about that. I raid with one Disc and one Holy priest. Blizzard has explicitly said that priests may not shine in any niche, but being a jack of all trades healer has huge raid advantages. I don't have to worry that encounter design will screw the healers over ($%^& you Blizz, Malygos and DKs and Death Gripping sparks...).
Priests do have the most diverse toolset for healing. Sure, a paladin might do tank healing better, but two Mendings on Sapph is ridiculous. Their ability to shift gear is worth a slight performance downgrade. Mendings during Vortex are also pretty darn ridiculous.
Honestly, I couldn't give two craps about max heal sizes. I tell my Disc priest that I know the healing meter is worthless for measuring her performance. They are competent and trying hard. That's good enough, period.Posted 01-31-2009 at 09:33 PM by Finelle

when i'm healing my regular 10 man naxx, there's a shammy and a pally there, too. yes, we run 3 healers. I avg. about 20% of the healing done, mostly because the shammy and pally get everyone topped off before I can do anything. I spend more time dpsing than healing, usually. it's demoralizing to see the wws logs and find out i'm there for hours and do so little to contribute.Posted 02-01-2009 at 08:18 AM by Artyfact

My healing team when I raid with my priest is a sham/drood/myself or droodx2/myself. If it's two druids and me, the healing is typically even. The only fight in Naxxramas that I would say priests own is Loatheb. I typically knock out 40+ percent of healing done on that fight, due to 7 - 10k prayer of healing crits and 3 - 4k CoH crits.
Best gheal crit, to go along with the requested ego boosting (:P) - 24k on Patchwerk 25.Posted 02-01-2009 at 04:13 PM by Krazen

When there are 3 or 4 tanks who constantly take moderate damage you just can't compete with a druid because he is able to keep all hots an the tanks which tick into effective healing.
The next problem especcially with discipline priests is that they "heal" you very much by shielding. A shield of a discipline priest absorbs 6k damage but these 6k aren't measured as healing. Heal meter are much less informative than dps meter.Posted 02-02-2009 at 02:52 AM by Menkáno
