Spec Tuning: WOTLK

Posted 09-30-2008 at 03:47 PM by thugthedum
So I've been tanking on Murmur for a bit now, done mostly five mans on normal or heroic, and a bit of Naxx. Lots of time recently I've put in to Wyrmrest faction quests, but I've hit a wall here - just the daily 350 from now on to get me to revered, so back to tanking and farming wintergrasp for enchant materials.

I've noticed I didn't miss Vigilance, though it was nice. When the DK's take aggro, they stay alive pretty well - or at least, they should be able to. The mages and others have gotten used to the new threat system and stay under it.

I did miss concussion blow however, and spam the hell out of Improved Spell Reflect - must haves.

Armored to the teeth is going to AP instead of BV, though it's getting a buff. For now I will ignore it since it no longer provides block value.

Improved charge for warbringer (which I love). With it, Tactical Mastery for the Defensive stance, charge, shield block, berzerker stance, big huge shield slam crit" move without waiting as long for rage.

Impale I find has huge synergy with Incite.

Everything else seems so "gotta have it" that it's not worth discussing almost. I like the defensive stance enrage, so I'm keeping it- 5% crit from cruelty is sooo nice, I love it that weapon throw silences and the 10% SS damage in Gag Order is not to be missed, I'm a believer in critical block for sure (though Damage Shield might be nice ).

Great spec for farming, I see your current build as a very offensive and damage dealing threat monster.

I of course could not live without Damage Shield, Imp. Revenge, of course I would be leaving out incite, TM, and imp charge. But personally I can live w/o it. Impale seems great but I am completely not sold on losing more utility as far as dmg shield/imp revenge goes, once revenge gets buffed.

Just my thoughts, why do you think this is the best build for you? I would love to be sold on incite and how great it is.

I like the spec that you have, as it is very similar to that I spec'd out. I had to go with the Damage Shield as well, but do not have the Imp TC. I did pick up Vigilance now that is does threat transfer.

Below is the tweaks in the spec:

Id go a different route

Ignoring att is kind of silly when its going to give you 333ap at 20k armor and many of our abilities, including revenge, tclap and dev are based on some percent of ap.

if ya feel your rage starved without the pts in improved shield block you can always go:

Rage starved? With my glyphs giving me 10 rage per heroic strike and free heroic strikes after a revenge, I can spam heroic strike while tanking and still never drop below 40 rage in a normal mode 5 man.

Of course, I have 25% avoidance right now on Murmur, so this may change.

Incite/Impale: there are abilities and glyphs which give you things on a crit, like say a free shield slam. This makes them happen even more often.
