"How can you be a protection warrior at level one?" I hear you all asking. It's a matter of heart. Of drive. Of the mentality of a protection warrior.

Leveling from 1-70 while protection specced was a pain, but it allowed me to practice my tanking skills on the way to 70. I tanked everything from VC to Gnomer to BRD, on up through all of the Burning Crusade instances as I leveled through them. And now I find myself the warrior tank in my small guild of friends who is the best geared, and is one of the go-to guys when we do our ZA attempts.

Being prot at heart has its advantages.

Loading Screen Tips

Posted 02-10-2009 at 07:12 AM by Thireas (Protcore!)

I'm not sure anybody noticed, but there's a new loading screen tip that is relevant to tanking:

Quote:
Dealing damage, healing, or casting spells can generate Threat against a creature. Most creatures will attack the player with the highest Threat against them.
I wonder if this will help people understand Threat vs. Aggro, or just threat in general. At the very least, it should help the terminology situation. A lot of people use Threat and Aggro interchangeably, and this tip...

The Problem With Charge

Posted 02-05-2009 at 07:39 AM by Thireas (Protcore!)

A Disclaimer:
I've been playing a healer almost exclusively as of late. It seems every time I go into an instance with my warrior, something goes terribly wrong and we end up failing. Unless it's a guild run. Then we're fine (even if we don't get the timed event in CoS).

This post actually has to do with both healers, and my failed timer in CoS. It's inspired by my having played a healer, and also by the particular pull that caused a group I was tanking for to wipe and thus...

ZA Cleared! ... twice

Last night, I was in on my first-ever ZA clear. It was fairly easy, and we got three out of four chests, even with two wipes on eagle. It was my first time seeing Zul'jin, and it was a little crazy, especially the Dragonhawk phase. I get the feeling our DPS decided to ignore the threat wipe on that last phase change, as big ZJ was kind of just rampaging all over the place. We still downed him in one shot (just like all the other bosses, save for Eagle). I wasn't really surprised at how easy the...

Appreciation Part 2

Posted 09-07-2008 at 04:10 PM by Thireas (Protcore!)

I was running around Hellfire with my shaman, doing some quests. I got to the one with the Marauding Earth Rumbler worm-lookin' things, and got an whisper from a druid who was on the quest as well. We grouped up to kill some worms, and ripped through it right good.

During this time, we chatted a little. Here's a paraphrased transcript.
Druid: Been in that guild long?
Me: Ever since I started the game :-)
Druid: Does 'tarlimance' still play?
Me: Yeah. How

Sixty-Seven

Posted 09-03-2008 at 03:10 PM by Thireas (Protcore!)

I checked my WWS for last week's ZA run, and let's just say it wasn't pretty. My rotation was WAY off, and the number in the title of this post was a particularly bad number. I really can't even say what it represents, it's so embarrassing. I'll just let you guess.

Yes, this is a terrible post. No, I don't care.
