"How can you be a protection warrior at level one?" I hear you all asking. It's a matter of heart. Of drive. Of the mentality of a protection warrior.
Leveling from 1-70 while protection specced was a pain, but it allowed me to practice my tanking skills on the way to 70. I tanked everything from VC to Gnomer to BRD, on up through all of the Burning Crusade instances as I leveled through them. And now I find myself the warrior tank in my small guild of friends who is the best geared, and is one of the go-to guys when we do our ZA attempts.
Being prot at heart has its advantages.

Naxx DPS

I DPS'd Naxx last night. I was asked if I wanted to tank it, but I'm still pretty sure I'd get crushed if I did (the whole no parry/block thing kind of spooks me, being an ex-prot-warrior). I'd like to at least break 30k HP unbuffed before I try tanking Naxx. With the Shroud of Darkness from yesterday's VH, as well as my T7 shoulders from last night, I'm at about 29.1k.
I really think I helped more as DPS in Naxx than I would have as a tank. I did about 2700 DPS overall, and was only barely beaten out by our guild's top hunter. I'd post the WWS, but it's not up yet (we should have one up soon, but we might not... I don't know if we care that much about an alts Naxx).
So, a question to those bears out there who have tanked Naxx: What are the minimums for a bear?
Here's what I have:

HP: 29.1k
Dodge: about 32%
Armor: about 25k
Expertise: 0
Hit Rating: 205
Crit: about 30%

Yeah, every time I see a dodge or a parry, I think "man, I should have more expertise", but a decent amount of my tanking gear is from my DPS set, which focuses more on hit than expertise, so that's where the hit comes from.
I'll probably craft the tanking cloak... that will at least give me some expertise.Posted 06-26-2009 at 09:36 AM by Thireas

Thireas, I'm a feral dps, and I pull 6k dps with 30 hit. I see some cats gear for hit, and it may be a personal choice thing. This is my logic for not bothering with it: If a move misses, including finishing moves, I get refunded the majority of the energy, and I can still get my energy down to 0 without a problem. If you chain miss and get stuck at 100% energy, thats an issue (but I have yet to see that happen). The ONLY time I wish I had more hit is if SR is about to go down, and I have a 1ish second window to reapply Rip before SR fades. If I miss then, it sucks. Otherwise... meh. Id rather have the itemization points into things like agi, ap, and crit.Posted 06-26-2009 at 01:49 PM by Insom

Some 'Rogue gear' has a good amount of expertise on it. Things like Trollwoven Girdle http://www.wowhead.com/?item=43484 , for example. You'll sacrifice a little stamina, but in the end I think its worth it for the big chunk of expertise you'd gain.
Plus it's crafted, so it's reasonably easy to get.Posted 06-27-2009 at 11:25 AM by Durandro

If you're at 29k unbuffed, then you should be fine to tank 10man, especially if your healers are skilled/geared. (When I first got in I was only at 26k)
And just like posters above me said, you should look for more expertise. There is a talent in the feral tree (I can't think of the name right now) that gives you 4 or so expertise right off the bat, and I would defintely suggest you take that talent.Posted 06-27-2009 at 05:23 PM by Isha

Btw, its 10 expertise for 2 points. and the other half aint bad for cat dps. win win in my eyesPosted 06-28-2009 at 11:00 PM by Insom
