"How can you be a protection warrior at level one?" I hear you all asking. It's a matter of heart. Of drive. Of the mentality of a protection warrior.
Leveling from 1-70 while protection specced was a pain, but it allowed me to practice my tanking skills on the way to 70. I tanked everything from VC to Gnomer to BRD, on up through all of the Burning Crusade instances as I leveled through them. And now I find myself the warrior tank in my small guild of friends who is the best geared, and is one of the go-to guys when we do our ZA attempts.
Being prot at heart has its advantages.

So, apparently, there is less than a week left until the Mageroyal Syndicate takes on Magtheridion. It's kind of hard to tell, because there has been significantly less fanfare involved as compared to our Gruul run. Nobody's really talking about Mags, and there are only 10 or so signed up for the raid. Which, honestly, makes me wonder if it will go off.
Anyway, in preparation, I will likely be going about things in approximately the same manner as I did for Gruuls. Instead of an unstable flask, though, I will likely be using [item]Flask of Fortification[/item]. I might go with [item]Elixir of Major Fortitude[/item] and [item]Elixir of Mastery[/item], though. I've actually done some alchemy with my warlock, and have been making a not insignificant amount of these. I doubt I'll be able to get the recipe for [item]Ironshield Potion[/item]s before Sunday, as I don't really instance terribly much these days.
On the subject of elixirs, though, does anybody else use [item]Elixir of Mastery[/item]? It seems like a great choice for EH and threat, and it's a battle elixir, so it stacks with [item]Elixir of Major Fortitude[/item].

Threat is generally not an issue with that fight, you will be tanking Mag for 30 seconds or more with no dps on him while they finish up the channelers. Mag IMO for a tank is more just about surviving, and praying the cube clickers know what to do.Posted 09-15-2008 at 08:11 AM by Tatt

i despise that combo of elixirs (no offense
)
[item]Elixir of Major Agility[/item]
[item]Elixir of Major defense[/item]
that provides the most EH and avoidance (to my knowledge)
but for progression, stick with a flask buddy
Good luck!Posted 09-15-2008 at 08:40 AM by Sanelora

Like has been said, mags is a survival fight for the tank, I say use the Flask of Fortification for the def. and 500 health, and chug some ironshield pots. Also, get a drood assigned to you for Hots.Posted 09-15-2008 at 08:01 PM by thedrawrf

as long as healers don't salck you shouldnt need any flask. assign a pala healer or 2 and they can keep you up easyPosted 09-15-2008 at 10:33 PM by Gaeldar

The fight is relatively easy for you. Well, I never tanked Maggy himself, but he doesn't do anything complicated. You do get a lead time, so use your Sun Eater and other survival gear. Make sure you tank with your back to the wall because of knockback and cleave. At 30% you might want to pop shield wall, as he does a cave-in.
The fight is all about clicking the cubes reliably. The best thing you can do is get the guild's best players to do nothing else but stand by the cubes and click them.Posted 09-16-2008 at 04:31 AM by Machus
