Forty-Three

So, I apparently got better. But not enough.
This number, as well as my previous "Sixty-Seven", was, in fact, the number of times I was crushed. Grats to Turkson for guessing correctly.
Admittedly, some of this week'd crushes come from my attempts at using a macro to hit Shield Block whenever I hit Shield Slam. This didn't work out so well... it felt like there was a delay, for some reason, and that was just bad. But that was also only one attempt on Dragonhawk.
I really don't know how to better prevent crushing blows. I Thunderclap, I Shield Block... what else can I do? Sometimes, I have to move a boss, and he gets behind me, where Shield Block is useless anyway. It's frustrating, and I honestly can't wait until WotLK, when there are no crushing blows. I was content with my tanking before I looked deeper and noticed that I was getting crushed. Now I feel like I'm horrible at tanking. Gah! Screw that!
Anyway... we went into ZA again last night (obviously). No timed events, we got Akil'zon in one try, Nalorakk in four, and we wiped seven times on Jan'alai before calling it a night. My rotation is getting closer to what it should be, so hooray for that. But I feel like we could have done better if I had not gotten crushed. Having two pally healers (along with a priest) might not have been the best healer makeup, and that might have been a problem as well, but still... who knows.
Is 0 crushes a realistic goal? At all? Do you guys look at how many times you've been crushed in a given raid? Would you mind posting your numbers, if you have them?
Maybe I'll just stop looking at stats...

| | It depends on the boss. Gruul should never crush you. Prince absolutely will crush you during phase 2. If I remember correctly, Nalorrak is not capable of crushing you. I'll admit I'm not very familiar with WWS output. I never remember to turn logging on before the raid. It's one of those things I keep intending to do and never get around to. But at any rate, if WWS displays shield block uptime as a percentage, then that would be a better indication of your performance than the number of crushes you ate. |

| | When moving bosses, you should Strafe so that your back isn't exposed. |

| | 67 crushes is just insane bud. are you having bad video lag? or just regular lag? what key is shield block binded to? I think this may be a one time thing honestly. I think your macro is bugged or flawed. Doesnt shield slam have a longer cooldown then shield block? maybe devestate is a better ability to macro it to? but in all honesty forget the macro all together. Bear and Lynx cant crush. The Dragonhawk boss you cant afford to get crushed on. If your group is doing it right (for newer groups) they should all be helping with the birds which should give you a nice threat lead. That is one boss you should take great care to make sure you keep SB/TC/Demo up because threat should be less of an issue. |

| | Actually, I did try the macro with Devastate. The standard rotation, however, takes about 6 seconds, while SB has a cooldown of 5, so it doesn't quite work out. I went back to having my SS/Rev/Dev on 4/5/3 (it's just how it ended up... kinda strange, I know), and Shield Block on 8, and that seemed to work better. Or maybe it was just more comfortable to me. WWS doesn't show up time for SB, but if I divide the length of the fight by the number of Shield Blocks (which WWS does show), I can find that out pretty easily. On preliminary, off-the-cuff calculations, SB isn't up as much as I think it is. I might just continually spam 8 next time, instead of waiting until the cooldown is almost up. That should remove any possibility of it being related to video lag. So, I guess my rotation (excluding Heroic Strike) will be like so (top row and bottom row happening at the same time). 8888888888888888888888888888 4533453345334533453345334533 |

| | If you want to be sure its always up just go ahead and macro it into Revenge and devastate. |

| | I'm probably being an irrational luddite, but I feel safer manually hitting my shield block key rather than relying on a macro. Besides, I think macroing my skills together like that would make me feel like a paladin. I *like* having lots of buttons to push. |

| | Yeah, I think part of the reason I ditched the macro was because it was outside of my comfort zone, in terms of knowing that Shield Block was going up. |

| | remember you cant shield block without rage. so on fights like dragonhawk you need to not over heroic strike. A crit here or there can really strain so so healers as they tried to keep you,the OT and the raid up on that fight. |

| | Ouch bro. Don't know what to tell you. Who is crushing you the most, Dragonhawk or Eagle boss? And to Jere, hahahaha. I've done that so many times, it's not even funny. It's really funny when you have people try to dispel the stack off. "Dude, it's gonna take you 50 seconds to take the whole stack off, just go heal someone." |

| | I NEVER used shield block. Ever. Untill I died 10 times in a night fighting Janali. I had NEVER used it until then. I had tanked parts of SSC and all of kara and Grull too. Half of ZA as well. Don't feel like a noob, learn from it, and no, never macro Shield Block. I made that mistake too. |

| | I just start spammin' cleanse on myself between sides and bubble afterwards because I find I get more debuffs on side 2 than side 1. Once we had both sides at once. nobody killed the hatcher and so I ran over and caught his side as he hatched it in two hatches... we killed 'em all, I had 99 stacks, I was about to bubble when I realized "oh fuck. I used wings to pick up the second side..." So, of course, you know who he targeted for flame breath next. ![]() |

| | this might be a little excessive, but if I have more than 50% rage, my shield block is up. Always. Regardless of whether I'm fighting Prince or heroic slave pens trash. I don't care what it is. As far as i'm concerned, the more blockage I have, from whatever i'm facing, the better. |

Ya that does seem excessive, but I did the same thing for a while when I was learning to make shield block part of my set-up, and it helped. |
