Why Do YOU Raid?

... assuming, of course, that you raid.
In one of Alent's recent posts, he mentions that he raids "primarily for the camaraderie and to help everyone". There were a few comments on the subject, and I got the feeling that there were quite a lot of different reasons that various TankSpot members raid. I can think of a few possibilities off the top of my head:
So, why do you raid? Do you raid for the gear? If so, why do you want the gear? Is it for progression (i.e. to see new content), is it for recognition (you like to be seen running around Shatty on your bear mount), or is it to better help people?
Do you raid to have fun? If so, what makes raiding fun for you? Progression? Recognition? Hanging out with friends?
Personally, I raid primarily to have fun. Sometimes, that doesn't work out, but raiding is for the most part a good time. But what makes it fun for me is a combination of a lot of these things.

What do you think? What drives YOU?

Progression/New Content
I love seeing new content. Doing Dragonhawk for the first time a couple Thursdays ago (even though we didn't down him). Doing a guild-first Gruul on Sunday. Seeing new things in this game is awesome.Friends
A lot of people I know in real life play this game, and they're fun people. This holds true in-game as well. I've also met some people in-game that I really enjoy playing with.Helping People
Helping people experience new content, and get into better gear so they can experience more new content. As unselfish as this seems, it's also so I can continue to get to that new content. If our guild can't muster 10 well-geared people on a regular basis, we won't down Dragonhawk, Hex Lord, or Zul'jin. And those are things I'd like to do. Helping others helps me.Recognition
Yeah, it's narcissistic. Oh well. We all like it when we get recognized for things we've done. So, that's what drives me, in terms of WoW. Getting gear really isn't part of my fun. At least not directly. I see getting gear as a side effect of raiding, even though it's also what allows us to progress further in the content.
What do you think? What drives YOU?

| | Personally, it's the satisfaction of a coordinated effort by many people. It's exhilarating to see a boss kill pulled off well. As an officer, it's everything you've listed ![]() |

| | Being perhaps a bit newer at this than many (just now working on first four or five kara bosses), I find that raiding forces me to learn more and more about playing my character. I am re-thinking many of my "assumptions" about tanking...listening to what others are saying...and, yes, avidly reading the posts in in TS. Low and behold...I am improving. |

| | All of the above, I suppose. At different times I have probably raided for each of those reasons being the prominent one on my agenda but in the end, for me, I want to raid with friends and have a good time. |

| | I raid because I like raiding. I also read books because I like reading... ;-) |
