Wrath is killing guilds already

Well, here's a summary of the situation: I'm the maintank of a fair sized raiding guild that picked me up when I was a wee noob in blues and greens. We've done everything from kara to TK and za. Though there have been some userpers and some malcontents, and at one point (from which we were finally recovering) alot of people who have thought the grass would be greener elsewhere, the core of the guild has always been strong.
My computer died last week, so I missed whatever killed my guild. I came back on lastmonday and bam- half the main raiders are gone. Over a dispute about a trinket off bloody VR. So here we are again, scanning /2 lfm raiders.
I really do believe that all the wotlk news is getting people into the mindset that guilds are bound to split like so many did in bc. That or people are really loot whores when it comes to rouge trinkets

Yeap....I think there is a certain normal level of guild turnover, sure but people's attitudes and priorities change at the approach of the expansion. I think much of it had to do with the 40->25 change in BC and to a lesser extent I think there will be more viable 10 man guilds now but indeed, times are changing.
Yeah....there are a handful of items that, as a raid leader, you almost wish you don't see drop. DST had all the rogues drooling but the ret pally wants it too......I had a guy wuit a raid on the spot once when I didn't give a TF binding to his alt. People get crazy about crap like that and as we near the end, its kinda like the old guy buying the convertable.....you're time is limited and you want the best gear you can get before its too late. And then it leads to unbalanced raids and frustrations.
If you walk through Org or IF LFM Gruul's, you'll get rogues, 9 fury warriors + assorted others wanting that one item but damned if you'll find a healer. Same goes for in guild....hard to motivate people to keep going in even numbers. You may kill Illidan but its going to get harder and hard to keep tanks and healers going when theres not new loots in it for them.
Damn, I despise loot, lol. Best way to avoid that is to play with people who are decent folks and not concerned about loot. Erm...good luck with that.Posted 08-22-2008 at 10:01 AM by Horacio

Actually, Wrath is sort of rebuilding my guild for me. My break from the game, and Sunwell, killed us. So no one is doing anything right now except leveling alts, or enjoying summer. I made an announcement on the forums saying we were going to focus on 10mans only in Wrath, and if people wanted to do 25mans they would have to look elsewhere. Since I posted, at least 4 old old school vets of our raid expressed interest in coming back to raid 2 nights/week.
Loot drama sucks though. Sounds like your GM didn't handle the situation very well if it caused half the guild to quit over night.Posted 08-22-2008 at 10:46 AM by Caulle

I'm likely going to have 2 groups going. The other guy that lead the raid with me will take a group, and I'll take one. No idea how that'll pan out though! I'm sure a month later I'll have 30 people wanting into the 10 mans, and then next thing you know they're going to want 25mans again, and I don't want to be caught up in that schedule again.Posted 08-22-2008 at 01:39 PM by Caulle

Yeah....on raid nights I get bored thinking I could be doing this or that. On off nights I'm wishing I were in a raid.
Honestly, I took for granted alot in that I had a good, close group of friends that are great fun to play with. Sure, we're not going to put pressure on even mid tier raiding guilds for progression but meh, who cares?
As long as I'm having fun and not dealing with all the little politics and bullshit...I enjoy the hell out of raiding.
Maybe we will hit 25 mans. I'd be perfectly content to ally with a similar sized group or PuG some people to give it a go but the fact that there is going to be really measurable progression through 10 man raids is encouraging. Never had a problem getting together a dozen or som solid people....but filling out those last few slots in a large raid is a pain in the ass.Posted 08-22-2008 at 02:06 PM by Horacio

10 mans are really going to be the only hope for my guild as well. Without sounding precocious or concieted, we really only have 11 or 12 people who are consistent, and good, so I can totally understand you. Also, a ten man setup allows for more of a "large group of friends" feel, and less of a "annoying office party" thing.Posted 08-22-2008 at 04:07 PM by thedrawrf

My guildies are asking me "What am I planing for WotLK" and I really don't know at the moment. I know many people I could form 25man raid group with and even gather there people from guild, or I could just set raid group within our guild to do just 10man.
But yes, spirit of WotLK kills it all a bit. People don't attend as usual and gear is sometimes getting distributed as "what will be good in WotLK for xy class" which is weird sometimes.Posted 08-25-2008 at 08:32 AM by Lumirel
