OMG Content

The irony of my blog complaining about content is not lost on me. I posted this in our guild forums, then thought it'd make a reasonable blog entry.
----
In my eyes the number one problem in WoW is content.
Mount Hyjal is flat out a piece of shit, with no redeeming qualities. I can't think of any point in time where I thought "this is fun!" in there. Black Temple is somewhat better, at least you don't want to gouge your eyes out to make it stop.
Magister's Terrace is. That's about all I can say about it. I tanked it once, DPS'd it once and really don't have any desire to go back. Replay value: none at all. We'll see about the raid zone, but from what I hear it's just a new round of gimmick fights. The upside is we're on track to finish Sunwell by the time WotLK releases, so the raid content will last perfectly for us.
Content is the biggest problem in this game, and after years of experience they still have not learned how to tune an encounter with any sort of speed (the fact that encounters need to be tuned is a whole other rant of mine, but that's for another day.) Content comes out at a glacial pace and people just get sick of it. We cry about recycled textures but I'd gladly see more content with the same graphic look instead of here's a new zone, enjoy it for the next five months!
That ties in with [one of our members] comment about the seasonal thing. Spring is coming and given the choice of going out and doing something or logging in and repeating the same old junk again, more and more people are going to go out. It's the same cycle every year that ends in August where you may as well cancel raids for the whole month because people are on vacation and/or getting ready to go back to school.
Our best bet is probably to recruit some bodies to fill raids. It's a bandaid, and one that will set us back a few steps as the new people are integrated and geared up. It will keep us moving though. It's the best we can do given that the real solution is out of our hands.
------
I know we're not the only ones having this problem. Every endgame raid guild on Stormrage is recruiting right now. I doubt that the reason for this is different than for us in anyone's case.
WTB new content.

| | I remember ol' days of DAoC. I played that game for almost two years and I couldn't play all the pve content. And obviously that was just my realm, there was 2 other realms as well as their respective pvp frontiers for each which I didn't managed to know either. I remember that around 2 days a week my guild went to do some PvE. Every of those days we got excited about new things that we were visiting and knowing for our first time. And still, we couldn't manage to visit every single place of the game, not even beat it. Probably, you could count with your fingers all the people in Europe who has seen all the pve in DAoC, and probably they couldn't beat it entirely. Wow is complete reverse. I know all zones, instances, gimmicks and quests of the new zones they make in about 2 weeks before they go live. When the patch is implemented, you get the fun the first day, then it becomes repetitive again in no more than a week. And well... as you say... next new things are coming in 5 months (GG Blizz). I'd rather play some dota.... they put new heroes or items in a more regularly basis >.< |

| | Well I've found the solution myself. Raid less. We raid between 5-8 hours per week tops and as a result never run out of content. It's the same old story though you can't please everyone. While you just want more and more content and don't care about graphics... others would have a fit over new instances with the exact same graphics over and over again. I have to agree Hyjal is annoying. Tanking is already the most stressful, most focused role in a raid and Hyjal maxes that out. It really is the worst part of AQ20 for a whole run. That being said for the time being it's got enough new loot for me and it's different enough that I can handle it, but I can definitely see myself getting to where you are at soon and hating it. Black Temple feels a lot like SSC. The initial trash is easy walking into it and while I haven't progressed far, I can only assume it'll get more challenging or less forgiving as you venture farther into it. Regarding MgT I hated it initially too, but it's starting to grow on me. Such a caster heavy instance with so little space results in a different experience than any other 5 man. But ya... as the years go by it's the guilds that can effectively recruit that survive. I don't think that'll change unfortunately. |

| | WoW is dwindling quickly for a lot of people. 2 months ago I used to have 31 people log on for a raid and had to pick 6 of them to sit out. Last night we had exactly 25 with one of them DC'ing a number of times and no back up. Before the raid week started, one of the pallies approached me wanting a week off because he was burnt out and bored. I'm seeing a lot of other people display the same feelings as well, they just havn't left. Yet. The content right now sucks. The *only* thing I truly enjoy in the game right now is my Sunday ZA timed right. We've got it down to 37 minutes now. But when those 37 minutes are up, I go right back to being bored. |

| | Glad I am not the only one who is not all that excited about sunwell. Spent a couple of hours last night on Kalecgos and the fight just never seemed all that fun or new. Honestly I cannot wait for the wotlk beta so that raiding can just wind down naturally like it did for us pre bc. For me it is about time for a new game or maybe play wow as a non raider I don't know. |

| | Is it irony that I spend as much time putting this site together as I do precisely because I have lost interest in WoW? I love WoW, love Warriors, love tanking, hate raiding, hate the time it takes for new content, and in many ways, hate the content. This means my Druid alt is getting what little time I have, since she's still leveling and never gets held to a timetable. I'll be trying Warhammer and Age of Conan, because I try most new MMOs. I also want to get my RPG up and running for all of us bored folk. ![]() I'll continue to pay and enjoy WoW. Wrath of the Liche King looks good, if only for the art and design they're putting into it. What I enjoy about WoW is the people, which is the reason any of us are still playing. |

| | I'm in kind of the same boat, but for different reasons. It's not so much that I'm bored of the content, that I got left behind in it. My RL friends have almost all left the game, which leaves me in a situation where I have to get used to playing alone. Grinding and alt-levelling are not favorite activities of mine(though I am somewhat enjoying my new prot pally), so I've been thinking of trying something new. If you guys are gonna try AoC, lemme know and I may tag along if you don't mind. |
