(So as to not derail an already derailed thread even more)

Quote:
Relax, people. This is a game.
Don't take this as an attack, because it is not meant as one by any means.

It's clear from many posts by many people that that they treat it as a game to blow off steam and just have fun. That's fine and well, and nobody is arguing against how anyone cares to play and enjoy the game. As long as you're having fun, that's the whole goal.

By the same token, many of us here enjoy the maths and number crunching, and yes, take it much more seriously than "just a game". It's in the realm of a hobby for many of us. Just as I don't ask people to take it more seriously, please don't tell me not to.

That's the beauty of it all - we all can play how we want to.

Exactly right, and by number crunching and theory, your only making the game a much better experience. Like anything the better you are the more fun!

Threads don't get locked unless there is something genuinely moronic being said (i.e. the paladin saying Shield Slam is a bad ability). In general I prefer people say something in a meanspirited way than say nothing at all, provided there's some real thought behind it.

    For my part, I apologize.

I was simply frustrated at what was an unfair situation.

    Why so serious, Satrina?

    ...

I want to hit myself for saying that just now.

Wow. My words sparked somebody to blog.

How should I take this? I'm really confused? Are you using my words in a good way, or a bad way? Did you single me out for praise, or ridicule?

Either way, you did single me out, you didn't ask me first or discuss it with me, and I DO take it as an attack. What the hell is wrong with people any more?

Goddamn it. What a fucking pit of vipers. Grow the fuck up. Take your "issues" up with me in private. Don't use me as a sounding board.

Capiche? Now go crunch a few more spreadsheets, and I'll enjoy my game. Does that work for you?

Yeah that phrase has always bugged me a bit too and it gets said so often.

Most people will find a hobby / sport / passtime they really enjoy and devote more time to it because they're passionate about it. The fact that it's a mmo doesn't make it any less worthy than more traditional passtimes imo (playing/watching sport, stamp collecting)

I'm not into sport much, but that doesn't mean I'd go to a football stadium and tell thousands of fans to calm down because "it's just a game"

    Ding.

With that said, a little less vitriol could help, yep.

Hi. No one cares who you are. No one singled you out. No one is even remotely bothered by your indignation.

    You are a troll.
Your outrage is contrived and ultimately meaningless, and deep down you know it.

    No one cares.

I missed the thread that started this, but all I can say is Satrina tried to address it here in a polite and considerate manner, and you came back like a douche. Way to destroy any credibility your original argument had. I will listen to a calm thought out argument all day long, even if it is flawed, but a asshat who is a genius is still just an asshat.

Yeah, so I confine my trolling to work during the week and completely missed this mess.

Yeah, it is just a game. Tell Michael Jordan basketball is just a game. For that matter, tell my brother fishing is just a hobby. People derive different types and levels of enjoyment out of this and many other recreation activities and its up to them to decide how to enjoy it.

Like I said, I missed the thread but I'll go back and read it now. But there is no cause for the type of vitriol and name calling seen here.

    Well put Satrina.

I am new to WoW and am immersing myself into the mechanics etc more and more everyday.

When I do something for enjoyment, like Cricket, Cards, or Games I like to get into it a lot deeper than most. I find people who constantly takes things lightly baffling and that "It's just a game" line used to flippantly.

    Cheers,

    Shagh

    Lol...truly well put.

Man, sometimes I wish WoW came in different flavors, because my guild seems to be broken into two camps. The "Raiders": the players who immediately took a shine to squeezing out every last bit of potential out of our characters; and the "Casuals", who have T4 and T5 gear, but still put out piss-poor tps and dps because they don't care about their performance. Their sole defense when I get angry is "It's just a game."

It genuinely hurt my heart when my Kara group, which was almost completely made up of "Raiders", was made to split up and take some of the newer "Casuals" under our wing and help them out. We went from 2.5 hour runs to 6-hour ones. I wanted to cry...lol. In the end, I became just plain resentful because it was pretty obvious that the real raiders were all just carrying the casual ones around on our backs.

I don't have any real beef with casual gamers. They have their pace, I have mine. Some folks like to drink to full after EVERY pull. Some folks like to AFK to grab a drink after EVERY boss. Some folks love to sit by the boss' corpse and stare at the loot they've seen a dozen times before. I don't. All I wish is that the pace of the casual player wouldn't interfere with the pace that I'm trying to set. Or, at the very least, I wish they'd take some of my constructive criticism to heart, and not blow off every piece of advice I offer with that trite phrase, "It's just a game."
