MT for the Day!
Posted 04-05-2008 at 02:44 PM by Pathis
So last night in Hyjal Caulle and I decided to switch accounts. She's a bit burned out on MTing so I figured she might have fun as fury. To see how she thought about it, check out her blog!
Anyways, I forgot how rewarding yet annoying MTing can be. We pretty much breezed through the first four as always, none of them being too much trouble. Archimonde was a completely different story though.
As a side note, -wow- at a prot pally in there. It made tanking the trash a complete joke. We should have brought one in sooner!
Being prot spec in an instance like Hyjal gives you a newfound appreciation for the spec though, especially with the trash mobs. Tanking them as Fury spec in tank gear is as painful as pulling teeth. I can get a couple of mobs, sure, but it takes -nothing- to pull aggro on me as Fury unless I've focused on that specific target for a good amount of time.
As Prot I easily could pick up multiple mobs with a single TC. Tab target, do a devastate or shield slam here and there, and I tanked multiple mobs no problem. Too bad I can't be prot for trash and Fury for bosses!
Anyways, while the night was pretty fun for me, I kind of realized how super annoying Archimonde must be for Caulle. We spent probably 2 hours wiping on him last night until we got him. I basically spent the whole night sitting there, tanking him, as I watched people do dumb shit time and time again.
Also, wow, please -never- fear ward a tank. That is probably one of the biggest insults to a tank you can make, at least in my opinion. Being able to stance dance is something a tank prides himself or herself on doing. In the two hours we did Archimonde, I missed 2 fears total, out of -many- wipes. This may be a bit defensive, but of course I'm going to make a mistake or two in over 2 hours of wipes. We should have killed him before I even missed that first fear, to be honest.
In either case, it was pretty refreshing to see things on Caulle's side of the fence for once while she saw them from mine! It just reminds me that MTing is a very stressful, but a very rewarding job!
..Can I please go back to easy mode DPS now? ;_;!

| | "Also, wow, please -never- fear ward a tank." Paladins and Druids everywhere are crying. ~_^ Grats on getting to tank the place. it's a very fun instance to be a tank in, It's one of the few places where every tank gets in the spotlight and not just the main tank. |

| | I agree. When I was back doing Karazhan, and I was getting fear ward on Nightbane, I would just click it right off. It's not like you've got anything else better to do besides tank and spank, anyhow. It is an insult. |

| | Oh, sorry about Alent. I totally should have said "warrior tanks." Of course fear warding paladins and druids is a good idea! And yeah, it is nice that it's an instance where more than just the MT are valued. Really though, a prot paladin can steal the spotlight just due to how easily they can get AoE threat. And yeah Criss, I definitely agree. They didn't refresh it at all after the first one which I stance danced anyways, so I guess it's not too big a deal. I just wish they would have gotten their shit together 2 hours earlier, so we didnt have to waste all that time wiping to him. |

| | Yeah, no thanks. I'll stick with doing easy mode DPS ^^. Have fun tanking though! And yeah, I got air bursted by a nub feral druid last night too, so I feel your pain! |

| | I didn't even know it was possible. I mean, I know it could be done, but I just never saw it happen before. And to think, when I went to get my tears, half the raid was like, "Don't even bother." Imagine if I hadn't, heh. It was pretty funny the first time it happened. I started shrilly screaming, "TANK IN THE AIR TANK IN THE AIR!" and everyone was thoroughly confused. |

| | I've been air bursted twice. I knew it could happen, and when it did I was both glad that I had my tears, and confused as to why so many people have cratered from it. It's so easy! "Oh noes, I'm air bursted! Wait for it, wait for it... TEARS! Safe." I have at least one gray hair on my head every person who has cratered from not using their tears. |

| | Caulle, grey hair builds character. I've been air bursted several times - the first two times my guild killed them with me tanking were after an air burst. Props to the healers for adjusting.. and I'm glad I always get tears. They used to fear ward me. I didn't mind it, but I just find it easier breaking every fear as opposed to having to think (among other things going on in archimonde) whether or not they got a fear ward on me or not. So, they just let me do my thing - because they found it easier to just let me break it too. |
