Oh Kalecgos!

So tonight was our second night on Kalecgos, and I have to say, I really love this fight, despite the fact that we didn't kill him tonight. Its tuning reminds me very much of Naxxrammas back in the day. Only six bosses though, but I guess the gate system with the last three will lengthen the time it takes for the first guild to down Kil'jaedon.
In either case, we spent most of our tries on Kal ecgos tryiing to fine tune our strategy, which I think we'll have down by tommorow. Basically, our issues at the end were coming down to people missing their portals, which caused the rotations to be messed up to the point that eventually the tank would die. It was still an improvement over last time though. Perhaps the madness at 10% will overwhelm us when we have to deal with it though, who knows.
As a Fury Warrior, the fight is a bit frustrating, as a lot of AoE damage fights are. On the one hand, it means a steady stream of Rage, which at times can be great for Epeen DPS numbers (Teron anyone?). On the other hand, there's fights like Kalecgos, where the extra 10% damage in Berzerker Stance can be deadly. For the most part however, most of the damage can be avoided, so all it comes down to is situational awareness. Are you standing too close to someone else? Are you going to the portal when it's your group's turn? Are you not doing something moronic like having Challenging Shout right next to Rampage (Don't even get me started on our other Fury Warrior)?
All in all I am a big fan of the fight. It brings me back to the Naxxrammas days of truely hard encounters which were very well tuned. Take Brutallus for instance.
Sure, every DPSer needs to average something around 1800 DPS for us to beat the enrage timer. Sure, most guilds who have killed Brutallus didn't even beat the enrage timer, and they even did extreme things such as have almost everyone level up leatherworking for Drums of Battle, or stacked shaman for heroism. The fact of the matter is, guilds have killed him. He's much less of a consumable cockblock than Loatheb was back in the day, so we can't complain.
For my own guild, I have my doubts we can currently reach the required DPS to down him, let alone have coordinated enough healing for him. Granted, we do have a set of warglaives, and when he is specced properly, Sonya does amazingly well on DPS. Aside from him and our other physical DPS classes, though, we only have a few caster classes who can reach the required DPS, despite being overly geared.
If you look over on Caulle's blog, you'll notice her mention how she has challenged us to set our bars higher. For some of us, hitting the 1800 DPS bar is insulting, since we feel in our set of gear we should easily be breaking 2k. For others who have constantly hovered around 10th on WWS, breaking 1600 or 1700 DPS is an amazing feat.
Time will tell if we're ready for Brutallus. I know one thing though, another two sets of Warglaives for our other rogue and myself would be greatly appreciated!

| | Congrats on your progress! I too love Kalecgos- I might even go as far as saying it's my favorite fight. And if you've got the fight down so far, it's just a matter of dealing with the last 10%. Congrats on your soon-to-be kill, and good luck on Brutallus. Such a cliche, but he's.. brutal. |
