why i hate wow raiding

I've come across loot prio issues so many times and i hate the subject...
Comming from south africa and being born in the age where apartheid was non existant I liked the idea of equality though its always hard to do it is a socially corrrect.
I wont ever raid again where a player will be passed over not because of skill (merit) but because he can wear mail.
Some of you who are progression guilds fair enough you can do this and achieve faster kills but its not right this is a game people should be equal in a system where players raid to earn upgrades. Ive heard all the debates know all the whines so no need to post them.
This is a game and im sick of people getting stepped on because of people's opinions. Never ever will I raid where this is the case. A game shouldnt become another way of showing how wicked, inconsiderate and uncompassionate man is.

I am also from South Africa, but probably at least a few years older than you. You have very high expectations of an online game - this isn't wrong but you should understand that no system is perfect. About the best possible in an online game is a fully documented system that everyone understands and agrees to use, and then uses without complaining. This could be loot council, dkp, etc. None of these systems fully account for all cases though - offspecs? people who can't play a lot? officers who put in more work? people you really need to be well equipped or you can't do anything? someone has been waiting on the item for months?
What you can do is plan your gear out from lists on wow-loot.com (says what classes it better for and is mostly accurate), www.maxdps.com, etc and save your dkp for the important ones or make a case with loot council in advance or ask before going with even. You should make sure there isn't something easier for you to get or that something isn't much better for someone else than you.
Also try remember that you equip to raid, not raid to equip, and all your fun shouldn't be invested in items - your fancy purples will be replaced with greens in Wotlk (next expansion), but good friends to play with are irreplacable.Posted 06-24-2008 at 03:03 PM by Thist

ofcourse we can debate system for hours
nbut when the system in place forgets to show theres a priority system than is it the system or the players?
Im not one who finds epics the aim of the game (ok but tanking at kalecgos with t5 level gear is not what id call right) but I do think if a player bids on an item in a dkp system he shouldn't be passed over unless your a teeth to metal hardcore progress first guild. I have never liked items, I was always just happy to see a boss die so if your implying im a lootwhore than I wrote my post wrong.
What im saying is I have seen systems where these priorities aren't written and then used without even telling the other guy (who i might add asked politely if he could bid he understood it was leather but he thought he could bid and then he loses the item because its not his armor type right?)
In every walk of life people corrupt systems...its sad but im not going to be a part of it..Its a game and i feel too many people take it way too seriously..Posted 06-24-2008 at 03:42 PM by Nicki

There is a logical and understandable reason why gear is restricted by type. It may not be an ideal situation, but there's not many situations where that kind of rule would be created out of ill will or maliciousness. In other words, I'd give the guild rules the benefit of the doubt.
If equality were important and a fundamental part of this game, there would be zero classes and zero loot drops. That's not to say players shouldn't be treated fairly.

Hmmmm interesting comparison in some senses; I'm English born but I grew up in SA (from mid 80's) and have just spent 2 weeks there on holiday; however equality is a very hard thing to define, everyone has different ideas of what it means (in both a philosophical and practical sense) and often guild rules are a way of setting down what the officers think is best for the guild.Posted 06-25-2008 at 01:59 AM by Shortypop

Comparing guild loot rules to apartheid is so unbelievably shallow and demeaning to those who suffered under that system as to be contemptuous.
Apartheid happened to people in real life, the other is spending spare time (a privilege that is disproportionately available to white people world wide) on a frickin' computer game.
It's a game. Don't like your guild rules? Get a new guild or stop playing. Black and don't like apartheid? Sorry, you don't get to stop playing.Posted 06-25-2008 at 10:16 AM by Creampuf

We recently had an enhancement shaman asking for the leather shoulders off naj'entus, we said he had secondary prio to leather wearers.
My logic is that as a warrior i can wear Plate/Mail/Leather thats an "unfair" advantage over a rogue. Rogues might have to go head to head with a dkp pool 2-3 times larger than I do. I have the benefit of competing with 2-3 ppl for plate he has to compete with 9, and the reality of DKP is the number of competitors is fundemental to setting the price of an item.
I think on a case by case basis there are good reasons to wear armor not meant for your class (Boomkins, Enh Shaman, and Shockadins come to mind). But if you research the situation present your point of view to the raid leaders ahead of time (definitely ahead of time) then chances are exceptions can be made.
** note as a LoL moment after that 7-8 min blow up on vent over those leather shoulders the dps mail shoulders dropped off Supremus.Posted 06-25-2008 at 10:33 AM by loquatious

Apartheid is like politics or sexual orientation - probably best left alone on blogs and forums that are not directly about them (where they will not get the full serious attention they deserve in the right context), that is why my answer was about loot. What race am I? Undead.Posted 06-25-2008 at 11:21 AM by Thist

Well i still stand to my beliefs but what happened was a mistake.
1. The masterlooter thought the enh shammy was joking
2. The officer I asked about the issue decided to be smart ass and give a 'obviously rogues = leather'
3. It was never the case in the guild and modesty was always the best policy so its been sorted now but on all fronts and mostly my own it was a big mess up.Posted 06-25-2008 at 04:54 PM by Nicki
