This is the best news for ALL tanks EVER. With more viability for classes with tank specs to tank without them and for those who want to tank as any class to do so.
I've seen many paladins reroll warrior simply to get a honest shot at tanking. Now we seem to be working to a more equatable soloution as a result of possibly all the childish arguments presented by the WoW forums dissing paladin and druid tanking "their stealing awour jawbz"
It will be awesome if they follow this. Still a chance they might say screw it and put in class specific obstacles (e.g. shear and kael'thas shield) but hopefully they don't.
I think they have realised that skilled players were penalised by class not skill in pve.
It's a big shift in their philosophy and is bound to have issues but hell its a good shift!
Prot paladins get a bit more mana regen and warriors get a few more tweaks and I think wrath will be fun for all tank classes.
Also getting a 5 man tank will be easier and raid tanks won't necessarily need to do the job while healers and dps can have a change of role without a change of spec and still have a challenge.

It's looking good for tanks!

| | I'll take a skilled druid or paladin any day of the week as a tank than a crappy warrior. The warrior community needs to get over the "their stealing awour jawbz" mentality because I'm sure the ones crying are the ones who's tank spot is in jeopardy for being terribad. That aside, I'm all for more viability for all the tank classes outside of being a meat shield if Blizz can pull it off. Personally, dual talent specs that you could change on the fly OOC would solve all my complaints. |

| | That's... kind of a given, though, isn't it? I'd rather have a skilled anything than a crappy anything. That's why I don't tank any more - I don't have the personality for it, and I'm not as good at it as most of the people here. Plus, DPS is more fun. The reason warriors have had that mentality, though, is that up until now, encounters have been mostly designed for warriors to be the best tanks. If Blizzard had, right out of the gate, made the three tank classes equally viable, we wouldn't be in this predicament now. I wish it hadn't taken Blizzard four years to realize that, but I guess better late than never. |

| | Well, they probably didn't want to make some of the same mistakes that EQ made. In EQ a paladin could hold aggro through stuns and healing themselves - they didn't have to attack the mob to keep it. Monks were so overpowered for a while that you'd have to have been nuts to use a warrior over one. But you can go to far the other way too. |
