Things that excite me about Wrath P1 (spoilers!)
Note: I'm talking about talents here, so few things.
1. They aren't finalized, this is from the stuff the alpha NDA was lifted on, found on mmo-champions and alpha wikis.
2. Because of the source, they are potentially wrong, but meh, I like to think about things.
3. If you want wrath talents to be a surprise, don't read :P
I'm going to start off my series of blogs with some classes near and dear to my heart/dark side - Mages, Warriors, and Death Knights, sadly Paladins aren't in the works yet, so I can't comment on them, but I can assure you I will give a talent by talent breakdown when they do come out. As for general things, looks like they are going with "rating" now, with talents such as "Increases parry RATING by 20% of your strength" or "Increases critical strike RATING by 15% of your spirit" they are removing the direct modifiers and making classes favor stacking stats and ultimately, Blessings of King will be uber-awesome for every class no matter what now.
I'm going to start with Mages, since, for those of you that don't know, I have a lvl 70 T4ish geared Frost Mage. Some of the things that stood out to me
- Shatter Shield: when the shield breaks freezes all enemies around you. This seems pure pvp, nice way to say "Oh, bye thar" to the rogues that jump you, and if you are a quick tabber, the shatter/ice lance combo on multiple enemies can net you some serious damage. This will also give you a boost to your aoe farming should you pull too much... like me
- Potent Spirit/Spirit Builds: I remember when you had to stack spirit to regen, they are making mages get a boot from spirit now in the form of +crit rating. Looks interesting, maybe they will be able to justify the spirit on the tiered gear again
- Improved Water Elemental: Huge dps boost for pve frost mages, it now lasts 60 seconds on a 3 minute CD and has more mana.
- Mage Armor reduces the effects of harm effects by 50%: muahahahaha @ the locks. Frost armor use to be the pvp armor of choice, but now if you see a caster group you can pop this on and give them a run for their money. Hopefully this can end Lock dominance over mages, but I doubt it.
Ok, so, mages look pretty good, but they are going play very much the same way, pew pew from after, just a few new tricks up their sleeves, so let's move onto warriors. I'm going to look at this from a prot pally/raid leader point of view, I'll let you warrior mains break down everything
- Vigilance: wow, +5% dodge to the MT is going to be sweet. If you are capable of attacking while this is up (it says lasts until canceled) then it's going to make warriors the ultimate OT's for progression content. Who in there right mind wouldn't want 5% more avoidance for hard hitting, fast swinging bosses? Yes plix, and make it stack.
- Bloodbath: this is more interesting for the arena, deals damage and makes enemies bleed, but 4x to enraged targets. Obviously warriors get enrage, and apparently rogues and druids can was well, and what about bestial wrath? If all these count as "Enraged" in regards to this skill, popping "I win" buttons in the arena is going to be a double edged sword.
-The new Execute, 1315 + 30 per rage, on a 100 rage execute that's 3865 base damage, or an 8503 crit with impale talent. Oh, and should I mention sudden death where your crits have 30% chance to allow you to use Execute >20% health on the target? Bah, I might as well expect spamstring/executes from all warriors in the arena now, my poor priest won't live.
Ok, this is getting long, I think DK's will get their own blog later this week, tune in for part two later: Priests will get a nice over view as I've been playing one a lot lately ^.^

I hadn't thought of an OT using Vigilance on the MT. At first glance, the talent looks purpose built for keeping healers alive. Using it on the MT is a clever application, especially when combined with the incredible Stalwart Protector. I can see that being particularly useful on fights where add management isn't an issue.Posted 07-14-2008 at 10:39 AM by Orenus
