This is the blog on my character, Mordigen. He is a protection spec warrior, that is the MT for my guild Solrain Navy on the Sargeras US server. This is about some of the encounters I have had, and some of the things that I have learned.

So we made our second trip to Tempest Keep, and started out great. Clearing the groups with no deaths unlike our first trip here. I bad pull on my part, we get 2 of the big phoenix kill 1 before as many as possible run out. We get that out of the way and start clearing up to VR. Once inside the VR's room, we find it a little more difficult than last time before the last patch. Not sure if something changed via patch or we just had a different group. Takes us 3 groups to get in the rhythm.

Room cleared, we get set for the boss. People are starting to get a better understanding of the arcane orbs, but still wacking a few here and there. The first 2 tanks doing great, then it usually jumps around past the third tank and gets a few non-tanks usually before going back to a tank. Do we really need 3 good tanks, or what are we doing wrong. We got him down to almost 3% before the enrage timer went off and wiped the room with us.

So we made some vast improvement, and still missing our top tree healer, and some of our better dps, we can definately do this with the right group. This has been a bad week of raiding for us. This is the first week since I have been doing Kara, that I have not been there on one of my characters. Always tomorrow I guess. We will have to see. Time to restock the goods, and work on getting extra for others so my guildmates are all ready.

Well, I *think* I've done VR with 3 tanks, but nearly always I've used four. If *anyone* is getting killed by Void Reaver, then you need to rethink how you're doing this fight.

    A few tips:

Druids are nice for this fight. VR doesn't crush very hard, and they're excellent at generating threat as OTs.

Pally tanks are superb for this fight as well, though you really have to send the Pally tank in first, else he'll blow his mana very, very quickly.

Soulstone your top threat whores. When VR's around 40-50% HP, have those DPSers come stand right next to VR and start going all-out. They'll either pull aggro and die or die to Poundings, and then can Soulstone rez right after the next Pounding.

Group your top aggro whores in a group with a Shaman and put the Shaman on Tranquil Air Totem.

Tell your Shadow Priests to stop using VE to save on aggro (their mana regen and DPS are much more important than the extra healing).

Locks should blow Soulshatter about 2m into the fight so that it's back off cooldown for later in the fight.

Sounds to me like you don't need anyone or anything better than what you have, but if you didn't have any of your DPS or healers get killed by Void Reaver, that 3% would've turned into a kill with probably a minute or two to spare.

What works well (as long as your tanks have pretty decent gear) is a main tank group with 4 tanks and a shammy (for agro-totems ). Misd's onto those tanks having problems can help too.

Warrior tanks should ideally stack some agro gear - hit, expertise, block value - if the ranged is dodging the orbs ok and depending on your number of melee it's a pretty light fight healing so you can afford your tanks to take a bit of extra damage.

I think four tanks is normal, but if you're short maybe someone here has some experience with a well-geared fury/hybrid warrior helping to tank?

We use only 3 tanks, usually 2 warriors and a druid or one warrior and 2 druids. I think having fewer tanks for hunters to md to lets them move up again a bit faster. We haven't been unlucky enough for him to go through all 3 tanks quickly and go beat on someone else yet.

I was hoping to switch in a druid tank as well, and let one of the hybrid warriors go dps. Right now we have 1 pally tank going first, 1 prot warrior going second (me), then 1 prot warrior and 1 hybrid warrior fighting for aggro as well. The first 2 tanks seem to be falling into place in a rotation, but about half way through the fight, we have the 3rd and 4th tank get skipped. I am hoping having the druid tank, who generates a lot of threat, fit in there and either not have the dps pull aggro, or atleast minimize it so most of the second half of the fight is not VR running around, but sticking to the 3 or 4 tanks.

    Thanks for the help everyone.
