I pick you to raid with me!

Somehow, it all comes back to, "I want to play, why won't you pick me?" Whether it involves picking up women, applying for a job, or auditioning for American Idol, it's about attention and rejection. Even with the set controls of a limited amount of classes, gear, talent points, reputation, etc, there are players who range from exceptional to terrible. And lord knows, I'm not exceptional. But in progression, the investment of time should (and I don't like to use the word "should" often) go to the people who invest ALOT of time, effort, reading, gearing, studying and excel with their peers. And even if the people get to go to the instance they wanted to, they want to be on the damn winning team. They don't want to wipe over and over again like we did to figure out our roles and for weeks! Come on!

This is an IM conversation I just had with a brother of a guildie who had been turned down in the application process by me. We are usually family friendly but this guy wanted to raid and we have a surplus of DPS. We even specified that we need Feral Druids and Shamans in the application process. Italics are thoughts I kept to myself. Spell errors are all of his gloriousness.

Applicant : whats up with the pst on my app

Me: We've only been recruiting Shamans and Feral Druids
Me: We're too full on DPS, we only have room for 2 rogues for each raid

Applicant: that dosent sound right (lists off three names of guild rogues)

Me: Yes they often sit out because there isn't room for more than 2 rogues a raid
Me: I have a rogue too (And I don't get to play her too much because I know she's not in demand!)

Applicant: thats a bunch of bull shit its not like im some nub i have alot of friends in (Guild) and my brother

Me: We have 15 active rogues in our guild
Me: We already have people clamoring for raid spots

Applicant: its not like im trying tp ush some on out and get in your guys BT runs (oh fucking hell yes you are asking to set aside some of our members' requests to be put into a raid because you want to fucking raid now that you're bored in a PVP guild)

Me: What runs would you like to attend?

Applicant says: like kara za or maybe ssc or tk
Applicant: i know im not going to jump in and go right to BT (BS, are you really capable of waiting a month for BT?)
Applicant: and i know i may not get picked for alot of the raids but ya

Me: But you do know we're not recruiting more DPS?
Me: If you had a shaman or a druid, you'd be in like flynn
Me: We are overstocked with rogues.

Applicant: ight im not talkn about this any more its a bunch of bull shit

Me:Sorry (Because I'm an officer and I have to be tactful and shit)

Suck it UP. SERIOUS.

Being the healing officer for my guild, I have been giving the recruitment officer hell about getting me some people. (she might just respond to this, lolcats)

Personnel Officer (PO) : So apparently <guild X> is breaking up. Already got an intriuging applicant....rogue...
Me: Resto spec?
PO: errr.....very funny
Me: Does he have a pally alt?
PO: no, fury and arms warrior. He's specced fury now but had a Stormhearald for Arms
Me: how much bonus healing does a Stormhearld have?
PO:......
Me: throw him back, keep fishin. I need a healadin, STAT
OP: I'm trying!

Application question: What role do you enjoy most and why?
Answer : I liek DPS cuz I liek to be close to teh boss and see big fat numberz fly across the screen. If I overaggro its cuz Im leet and teh tank sucks and if I die (lulz) its cuz teh healerz suxxors (healors r gay neway). I like to roll mah face on teh keyboard and have no responsibility. I cna spec 4 PvP and still raidz.

There can be reasons to being in a raid guild even if it's likely you're not going to raid much. By being in the guild you have a pool of like minded people who are capable of playing and who enjoy raiding, this makes it easier to (guild)-pug stuff you want to do on non raid days. So even if you're not likely to see a higher tier raid the instant you join, it can still lead to more action than what you did before, and you have to option to shine should you be asked to fill in for someone and actually work your way up to become a frequent raider.
However, this needs some initiative, simply joining and hoping others will do the work for you is a mistake (unfortunately one made quite often).

From the way the guy sounds on IM I would rather put him in the 'I want to be invited and not do anything for it' camp. Otherwise he wouldn't sound so undecisive.
