Increasing time on target

Just a random thought I had.
If you're stuck not sure how to up your DPS at this point, you could consider increasing the amount of time your actually doing damage to a mob.
The time switching between targets, the time running from one to another, and the time spent dispelling, etc all takes time away from doing damage.
Try an assist macro for targetting. It will make sure you are ALWAYS targetting your focus's target and start attacking. No down time. And it's immediate. It could help. Who knows?
Any of the boot enchants that increase run speed can up your DPS by allowing you to GET to the target faster. Especially true for the classes that do it from behind.
An add on like Decursive could increase your DPS immensely by allowing you to dispel the party without switching your current target.
Think about it, if you're doing 500 DPS and it takes you 2 seconds to target a party memeber, dispel, and switch back to the mob you've just lost 1000 damage.
Anyways, just some ideas.

I think you're absolutely right and this goes back to the excellent blog last week about being good at the core function of a class but failing to deliver overall performance. Time on target is situational awareness..and it translates to every raid function.
As a resto druid, I can tell you the benefits of pre-loading all HoTs on my "target" early. As a tank, every extra half second you can get by aggresively engaging is building a tad more threat. And of course, the more abilities and attacks you are able to apply to the target, the more damage you will do.
Partly a DPS increase but certainly an increase in damage output and raid utility.
As a warrior from a DPS POV, intercepting back to a target or to another target is one way. Strafe away and move by mouse so you're always facing the boss and attacking on the run if there is movement.
This can also be helped by alert healers/decursers. If you have to back away and bandage, you've just sandbagged your damage. That HoT ticking and poison cure means you can keep hacking away.
For casters and hunters too, mana management is huge because you're doing garbage DPS sitting there wanding or auto shotting because you burned through all your mana. Great, your fireball crits for 5 K....now your wand is hitting for 400, props.
There are other raid utilities that can keep other players on target longer. Judgements on the main target restoring mana and health. Totems/Spriests giving back mana. Spellsurge.
It all comes back to that. There are many ways each class and spec can increase thier time on target and even help others do the same.Quote:If you're stuck not sure how to up your DPS at this point, you could consider increasing the amount of time your actually doing damage to a mob.Posted 06-24-2008 at 08:28 AM by Horacio
